Great find, we booked online but arrived early and the restaurant were able to find us a table, there is a daily selection of local oysters available which were superb if on the small side. The lobster roll as a main comes with a heap of excellent fries, no empty stomachs when leaving! You're pretty much elbow to elbow with... More

We were looking for a place that offered great food, of course, at a reasonable price to celebrate a good friend's birthday . Our original choice cancelled our dinner reservation for 7 because of a broken pipe. (Who can make this stuff up?) A friend recommended The Mermaid Inn and amazingly they were able to accommodate our party on short... More

We came here based on a recommendation as my husband is a big fish/seafood fan. We really liked the menu and making a choice was easy. Both our starters and mains were delicious, good portions and well presented. We were sat outside and tables were quite close together. The service was good and very efficient.

Food was tasty, presented beautifully. The pacific oysters were our favs! Enjoyed everything from fish tacos to the hangar steak! The fish special was cooked to perfection. Mini-dessert pudding was yummy ! Staff was amazing; they anticipated our needs! Will be going back! They held our quaint table, even tho we were late! That Jersey traffic!

We have frequented the Mermaid in the UWS on numerous occasions and loved it. Decided on this trip to experience the east side version. First and foremost, staff was incredible. Amazingly attentive and responsive. Secondly, food was FANTASTIC. We are huge seafood fans and did not leave disappointed. My only beef. Due to the proximity of our tables, which is... More

I researched seafood restaurants in NY, looking for new places for our trip. Lobster roll was on my agenda, and this place got great ratings. The dining room at the back is nice, we had a table for four. My cocktail was so spicy I ordered a second with no spice. The lobster roll came surrounded in a sea of... More

$1 oysters!!! What more do I have to say? The food is great. And after the meal you get a little complimentary chocolate pudding! I just wish they'd put the shrimp cocktail bloody mary back on the menu.

My daughter introduced me to this restaurant and my husband love the place. It was last year in June for his birthday and since then we have been here 5 times. The $1 oyster is excellent as is the lobster roll and the mini fish tacos. We love to come here and just drink wine, eat oyster, talk and relax.

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
