I love this place.I understand zero of India's culinary, although at home I use a lot of curry,garam,masala...I live in Brasil and we have a lot of fruits coming from there like mangos and jaca. But outside these only with someone explaining the dishes I'd be able to choose what to eat.and this is for some good teacher as RICKY,the wonderful waiter... This place serves good Indian food, but is quite expensive if compared to quantity as well as service. The servers keep pushing to buy more items from the menu even if you do not want. Also, the restaurant is very small and cramped. I always go to eat their jackfruit biryani, which is difficult to get in US. Keep in... More

Very good food. Very tasty and creamy. Excellent appetizers and a long choice at that. We tried the Behl and the samosas. First time we had three different types of vegetable samosas. The korma is very rich. Overall recommend. Appetizers were very fast. Main dish took quite long

Indian is my favorite, we were in town for the weekend at the Concierge at our hotel suggested this one. I must say this is the best Indian food I had. Its a small place tucked away but it was just perfect on this rainy night. Excellent service too.

Wow! The food at Amma is probably the best Indian food I have had in NYC. My wife and had dinner there with another couple and we all thought the meal was exceptional in every respect. We could see why Amma is rated as one of NYC's top restaurants. Several standout dishes included samosas, tandoori grilled vegetables, goan shrimp, Tandoori prawns,... More

If you would like to experience an amazing culinary trip to India, Amma is one of the best choices in mid-town Manhattan. The restaurant offers a variety of delicate choices of North Indian cuisine. Dishes are delicious and tasty. Excellent service and a refined ambience completes the experience.

The food here is wonderful Indian - just lovely. Well-spiced, nicely presented, a great wine list, cozy place, not too loud. The only downside? The kitchen seems to lose the timing thread. You don't expect a good restaurant to be "fast food," but waiting an hour for entrees, as a neighboring table did? Not helpful. Come here if you've got... More

Excellent spot in midtown for some authentic Indian food. They have some interesting dishes in all three genres vegetarian, non-veg and seafood. Must try fish moiley in mustard sauce with garlic naan, Sag paneer and butter chicken are good indication of a good authentic North Indian meal. Appetizers are good and tried something different spinach chat, trio of stuffed veggies... More

Good South Indian food, but very pricey. Seating is a bit cramped when it gets busy, but the food was good.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
