Nothing special, but the atmosphere is nice enough. There are lots of other Japanese places in the area, and I think I'd try another next time.

Tempora, spicy chicken, sushi were all quite good. Draft Asaki beer, 16 oz mug for 5 bucks. Across the board this place is value. Not all the ambiance of the neighboring Japanese places but easy to get into, i.e., minimal wait. Still a nice ambiance too.

When I arrived at this restaurant' s entrance, the staff noticed me so quickly and took me to have a seat. I often feel racial discrimination in western styled food and European restaurant , but staffs here are so nice and service is excellent (^^)/

This is a cosy, clean restaurant. Don't wait a fancy meal... However they have good options of vegan and vegetarian food... I liked their miso soup, edamame. Their sushi is not bad... the service is kind and nice.

A Japanese friend led us to this restaurant and called it quite authentic. The tempura was delicate and delicious, the salmon entree cooked to perfection, and the sides that accompanied the special were superbly prepared. Those who ordered sushi were equally pleased. If one arrives before 7 p.m. on most evenings, there is a special for the night. For Manhattan,... More

Udon with chicken and scallions was perfect - not too salty and the chicken was delicious. Service was prompt and friendly, and sitting in the large-windowed dining area made for a great time people-watching.

this is truly and honestly the place where i ate my first sushi, now more than 25 years ago. the restaurant was back then in the adjacent building. the sharaku is something of an institution, even though it never made it quite into the top league - it is there to stay, as it always was. the fish here is... Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
