In an earlier review, I expressed some concern about cleanliness while reporting that the food was pretty good. I read a review here comparing this shop to the one in the Seinfeld series and it certainly has some similarities. I decided to give it another chance this morning. My concerns about cleanliness persisted, and the food really wasn't very good.... More

Not sure what went wrong. We have breakfast a few times a year at Neil's when staying with friends on the Upper East Side, and have consistently had prompt service and well-prepared food ... but not this time! On Sunday morning the store opened a bit late. We were first in the door, but our order was taken third, and... More

Was in Manhattan to see the New York City Marathon. We walked by this establishment and decided we wanted to drop in for a cup of coffee. Their homemade muffins looked so delicious I had to try one. The service. The atmosphere. The neighborhood feel of the place made it even more inviting. I would drop in to have a... More

I sometimes come here for a quick solo soup & sandwich lunch. Food is fresh, very reasonably priced and very tasty. Close to Hunter college and Armory. Love the staff and classical diner atmosphere.

I often come in here and when I am visiting the upper east side. Service is friendly and fast. Food is okay by NYC standards.

I had lunch here one afternoon while waiting in Lenox Hill for a couple of hours. The food was fine but unremarkable. I'm right outside there now and feel no need to experience the place again.

Waffles, pancakes, eggs, bacon, toast and good coffee from a time before breakfast became an expensive artisan 'must have'. Neil's is a basic, no nonsense, friendly diner where your coffee cup is never empty and the plates are brimming food, however you want it. Lots of people were coming and going with takeaways, the booths were full and yet the... More

On a whim, we decided to stop in for a coffee. We saw they had cheesecake and couldn't resist, so we shared a slice. It was pretty good, but I don't know if I would go out of my way to visit here again.

As if right out of a Seinfeld episode, Neil's is the quintessential New York City coffee shop. A counter on one side and several booths and tables on the other. That wonderfully intoxicating smell of burnt toast and fry grease, photos of a few lesser celebrities on the walls, a couple of dollar bills taped to the wall, etc. Prices... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
