5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed yesterday NEW

On visit to NYC from UK. Booked a month ago for Sunday evening, based on both Trip Advisor and vegan blogger reviews. It definitely did not disappoint. Excellent food, superb well priced wine, and outstanding attentive service. Faultless!

As vegans we were very excited to come to NYC for some good vegan food. We decided on lunch at Candle 79 and were not disappointed. Completely out of character for my husband and I we spent 2 hours eating! We had appetizers, entrees and desserts and enjoyed every single bite!! Try the Angel Nachos and you must have a... More

Im recently vegan and ate here during a recent trip to New York and I was very impressed. My meat eater boyfriend even loved it and couldnt believe what you can do with plants and grains. We had starters, mains and desserts and whilst it is more on the expensive side- it is well worth it and a great cheat.... More

I really hate to say that this is the best "vegan restaurant" because it is just the best restaurant that happens to be vegan. My daughter and I debated about what to get because the choices were so amazing. I got a mushroom crepe and I cannot remember what she had,but both of our meals were delicious and the service... We were in Manhattan for 24 hours for business and my husband was celebrating 1 year as a Vegan...I booked Candle because of it's reputation, quality and location. Good: 1 - service was fast 2 - getting a reservation was pretty easy for a Monday night 3 - food was great, tasty hot 4 - not too fancy so you... More

Located in the Upper East Side Candle 79 is hands down the best vegan restaurant in NY. The restaurant is set up on two floors with the bar and several booths on the ground floor and booths and tables on the second. In the back of the second floor is a small outdoor seating area. The decor is sophisticated and... More

The wild mushroom crepe is outstanding. My wife and I have eaten at Candle 79 four times now and the food is always amazing. Food and service are top notch. Excellent atmosphere and you feel great when you leave because you know you have eaten good healthy food. Always my number one choice when visiting the city.

Finally made it back. Dinner for seven including two frightened elder confined carnivores. Sensational food, great wine, superior service. Candle 79 proved its reputation. Ask for GF menu if it suits you. Relax knowing the food is organic vegan.

What a delight it was to dine at Candle 79. From the moment we arrived until we left, we were treated with welcoming, friendly and attentive service. I don't like stuffy or pretentious waiting so it was a delight to have a friendly server always with a smile on his face who was more than happy to advise on dishes.... More

After a long day of 5th Avenue window shopping and a 9/11 walking tour, we arrived at Candle 79 for our reservation and were seated politely and promptly. It's very freeing to walk into a vegan restaurant and be able to order anything off the menu. So nice, that we wanted to order one of everything! Beckie, our waitress, was... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
