Having been here back in 2014 and had a good experience, we decided to dine again during our visit to NYC this year. Now i really wish we hadn't bothered. Utterly useless staff who know nothing about the mediocre wine list and are oozing indifference towards customers. The food (in terms of product quality) was ok, borderline good - I... More

We loved the atmosphere, very romantic and private. The food wasn't really what I was expecting. I thought the appetizer and main course were just okay. Nothing special. The dessert was delicious. Overall, we enjoyed the experience but I've had better Italian food.

Met up with close friends for a fabulous meal in a lovely and quiet room. Had a corner table and we could conduct a nice conversation without raising our voices. Attentive wait staff and a nice and concise menu with enticing specials. A very enjoyable meal in every way.

Went to Il Cantinori with family in the Village; excellent choice. Hard to find anything wrong with this place, an icon for great food in the City. Handled our wide ranging family with ease, True Tuscan flavors and dishes. Been open since sometime in the 80's so building their reputation. As for favorite dishes, our party of six all had... First time here after dining in this area for years. I was interested in their interpretation of Tuscan fare, more specifically, the food of Florence. Right off the bat, I noticed Ribolitta on the appetizer menu. This is a common item on the menus in Florence - it's a wonderful bread thickened hearty vegetable soup/stew. The version here was good,... More

I'm a New Yorker but now travel between NY and Asia. Over the years I have visited Il Cantinori and always rated it very highly and so was looking forward to having dinner there. However, I was there last night and think that will be my last visit. It has slipped a lot. If you are a tourist visiting New... More

It is getting more and more difficult to find an authentic Italian restaurant in NYC. The food does not have freshness and lightness and the excellent ingredients that you expect in a good Italian restaurant, even a cheap trattoria in the student section of San Lorenzo in Rome. My first dish was an eggplant roll, OK but not inspiring at... More

My wife and I (mid sixties) visited Il Cantinori in late January 2017 while on an extended holiday in NYC, visiting from Australia. As such, it was during "Restaurant Week", which seems to go for two weeks? It was highly recommended by our daughter. It is located at 32 East 10th Street, which is about 50 yards east of University... More

If this is NYC's best Italian restaurant, I feel pity for the NY-people. The food was really not that good and if you have been to Italy, you will know that. It was not bad, but if you look at the price vs what you get, the price point is too high. We had the polenta, vongole-squid-ink-pasta and the pheasant.... More
