After a long ride in NYC, we are starving and Markt was the first restaurant that we find. It was the best choice ever! We ordered and after a 30 minute waiting the manager came to our table, explained why the food wasn't there yet and gave us 2 desserts, all that without one complaining! The food is delicious, well... More

I hate writing bad reviews, but hopefully this one will help. It was an evening of good and bad. The food was pretty good, but the service was very bad. As a former waitress I know when we're being demanding or if the server is slammed. I did not think we were asking too much in terms of service. While... More

Dined here with friends Monday night. It was the perfect night to sit outside - the first really warm night of the season. Overall, it was a pretty good experience. Service was efficient, but not frenzied and our server was great - sense of humor and professionalism. We had croquettes, mussels, salad, fish, and fries. Ohhh the fries. I don't... More

Thanks for coming by and thanks for taking the time to review. Sorry to disappoint with the outdoor chairs. We go with a pretty classic design, but finding seasonal furniture that works for everyone is very tough! I'm glad you enjoyed the food and service and I'm hopeful we can win another star or two from you in a repeat... More

Its an old rough style bar atmosphere. In fact quite cozy. Service is ok for such a place. We choose ground beef tartar.. it was a huge portion and beef was ok but without finesse . The salat was relative fresh but again no love in preperation.

Our daughter found out that the only place to get DeKoninck in USA was Markt. Got her dad a gc. One of our favorite restaurants in NY now....the food and service are amazing. The mussels....to die for! Our server, I'm sorry I can't remember his name, the first time was fabulous. Becca this time was equally as wonderful. She made... More

I have been enjoying Markt since it's meatpacking district days(before it morphed into an Apple Store). Although it's no longer as cavernous, it still packs a lot of mussel. :)The moules frites: steaming pots of succulent mussels and crunchy side of Belgian fries are a knockout. Some of the best onion soup in town and great paté maison, not to... More

My friend and I tried out this restaurant for the first time. The inside is cozy and the waiter was considerate to move the adjoining tables apart for more space. The food was delicious and very well seasoned. The French onion soup was so flavorful and the cheese melted in your mouth. The salmon and vegetables were perfectly cooked and... More

If you are looking for authentic Belgian Moules/Frites (Mussels and French Fries), Markt is a MUST! There are about 6 varieties of mussels (steamed in beer, white wine, provençal style, thai, etc). They also have an extensive selection of Belgian beers on draught. Friendly, efficient staff, and old world atmosphere make this a great a great choice!

Was looking to expand our dining experiences in the City for when we hit the theatre so we gave Markt a go. VERY glad we did! A couple of summers ago we spent a week in a canal barge in Belgium and our dinner at Markt was as close to our meals in Flanders as we have found since then!... More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighbourhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets- much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being the home of a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
