From the second you walk in you are transported back in time to a place where Italian food is made with love. Omg everything and everyone is amazing. This is the choice of A list celebrity's and now mine. The walls are filled with The Who's who of the world.

This restaurant is one of the best Italian hidden gems in New York. We arrived a day that was almost empty. My father had the best meatballs he has ever tasted and I know his standards are high. I wanted to invite him and my mother and I'm glad i chose this place . The place is beautiful, the service... More

Being a faithful TripAdvisor reviewer, I know I can't keep the best places secret. It's just not right. So with more than a dollop of regret, I introduce you to Emilio's Ballato. News of this restaurant reached me through a family member who recommended it for a Christmas Eve family dinner for ten people. We called to inquire, and were... More

Who knew that plain old ravioli with red sauce could be so amazing? Emilio's Ballato may have spoiled me for other Italian restaurants. My friend and I walked around Little Italy and considered several places. But it was a Tuesday night and they were empty. Ballato, was packed with locals and we knew it must be good. The place is... Ballato's is an old fashion "red sauce" Italian restaurant where you are greeted by the owner who sits at a table by the door. Once inside, you see pictures and autographs of famous people in all walks of life who have eaten at Ballato's before you got here; and the walls haven't been painted in a life-time! It adds to... The Owner rules here. Understated simple Italian cuisine. Arrived late Monday afternoon with 8 guys. They treated us like kings. Had chicken parm and Tag Bolognese...excellent. A great Montalcino. Understand now why the celebs love this joint. highly recommend.

Staying in Nolita

Neighbourhood Profile
Despite being just off of busy Houston Street, Nolita maintains a low-key vibe that makes it a pleasant retreat in the heart of lower Manhattan. Short for “North of Little Italy,” Nolita was once considered to be part of Little Italy. Today, the neighbourhood is popular with young fashionistas popping in and out of the chic independent boutiques that line Mulberry, Mott and Elizabeth Streets. In addition to shopping, there are cozy restaurants and sidewalk cafes serving everything from new-school Italian food to the world-famous cronuts. While small in size (Nolita stretches just a few blocks in each direction), it’s a great neighbourhood to spend an afternoon people watching, window-shopping, and grabbing a bite to eat.
