Hot Kitchen has become our favorite Chinese restaurant in the East Village ever since we discovered it more than two years ago. Had dinner there again on our last trip to NY and glad to find that it was still every bit as good as it's always been, the food well prepared with dependable quality, the spicy dishes with huge... I live in western Colorado where decent, let alone spicy, Chinese food does not exist so when I come to New York I look forward to eating at one or two Chinese restaurants to satisfy my craving. A few years ago-2014 to be exact-my son and I happened upon Hot Kitchen on Second Avenue where we feasted on Sichuan cold... More

So glad we found this restaurant just by walking past. The food is very tasty, I would go as far as saying the best Chinese food I have ever had. Freshly cooked not warmed up like a lot of other Chinese restaurants I've ordered from before. The restaurant is clean & tidy, staff are very friendly. The only advice I... More

Authentic Chinese food. Everything was good but the soup dumplings are outstanding. We had several dishes and three cost was pretty reasonable. Try the turtle soup but be warned it is spicy (in a good way). Highly recommend.

Excellent Sichuan food! Should try the fried chicken with 3 types of chillies - it's not that hot or spicy, btw. Service is OK too. Price is reasonable too.

We stopped in about 30 minutes before closing for a quick bite after a show at the Mercury Lounge. The restaurant appeared to be fairly clean and we gladly would have eaten there, but were refused a table due to the time. Consequently, we ordered takeout (Sesame chicken and chicken fried rice) and ate on the steps of the church... More

Oh my!! soup dumplings are pretty amazing. Soup dumplings are a must try. Bite into one. Suck the sooup out of the dumpling. You end up looking a little crazy, but with a big smile on your face.

We found this restaurant near to the end of our holiday, we came back every night and even for lunch a few hours before our flight home. Waiter was great and advised us not to order the amount of dishes we did as they are large portions. This is the first place on our 'to do' list.

This casual dining restaurant serves very good food. We loved the shredded duck with ginger and ma po tofu. The soup dumplings were stuck to the steamer, and could have had thinner dough, but they were still tasty and not available at every place. Service is a little erratic and disorganized, e.g. the cold Szechuan noodle appetizer didn't show up... More

Ordered delivery from Hot Kitchen and got their Dan Dan noodles, fried veggie dumplings and steamed buns. The Dan Dan noodles were SPOT ON! Sweet, savory, spicy. And I like that they delivery with the components separately so you can toss them together fresh once the arrive.

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
