There are 2 restaurants, both owned by same family but this review refers to the tiny original at 2nd and 90th. By tiny I mean you will have to suck it in to get by the pizza oven that juts out into the small hallway to the bathroom. We were a group of 7 and crammed into a space meant... More

I used to live in Rome, and this restaurant made me feel as if I was bad in the city! The menu options, food, and wine were all incredibly authentic and delicious. The wait staff was extremely friendly and the service was so fast. The restaurant also offers outdoor seating which was nice.

LOVED this pizza restaurant! The waiters were very friendly and the pizza is the nicest I've had outside of Italy. I'm from Australia and this pizza, to me, was even better than DOC or Zero95 which are both incredible pizza restaurants in Melbourne. This topped it. Yum!!!

Enjoyed dinner of margarita pizza and burrata so much that we ordered it for take out the next evening! This cozy place in the neighborhood is always full to the door and beyond. The manager was very friendly and full of energy that was so contagious. Better reserve in advance.

While the antipasti were excellent, the other dishes were lacking flavor and were not prepared fresh. Modifications to the menu items were not feasible. The pizzas had the brick over flavor but lacked the flavor to balanced the charred crust. I would recommend the main restaurant - I believe located at 81st.

A real neighborhood gem -- very small but friendly. This is the original location -- definitely you should go. The owner Ciro is a genuine human being, delightful to meet. Don't be put off if he is sometimes gruff. He gives excellent service. I like the pizza a lot. Note they have a couple of choices without cheese. I enjoyed... More

We went here for lunch. Great brick oven pizza. Many to choose from. Very small place but worth a visit!

I've been telling my friends and family about this place since we went in January. Authentic food and service. Best pizza we've ever had. What an exceptional experience during our first visit to NYC. Thank you San Matteo.

We've been going to SAN Matteo on a regular basis since we moved to the neighborhood 5 years ago. This is our favorite pizza place by far in the city and we were so happy to find it so close to our home. In summer, the tables outside are very pleasant too.

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
