We visited as a family of 5 on New Years Eve. The tasting menu did not disappoint. The food is delicious and varied. The atmosphere in the narrow building is just right for this type of experience. The staff were friendly yet professional, adding to the fantastic experience. I'd recommend visiting.

I was wanting an authentic Portuguese Christmas dinner experience as being away from home currently but was deeply dissapointed. The food certainly wasn't Portuguese and shouldn't be called as such not to confuse people. As the plates were being removed the bill was presented without even being asked if we wanted anything else as if to rush us out of... More

On a Friday evening during holiday season when every bar in this trendy neighborhood is packed, nondescript Aldea offered up a bar (about eight stools) in the hallway of the restaurant. Great friendly service and perfect for a drink and chat. Didn't visit the restaurant this time.

My wife and I went to Aldea while in NYC. Chose to go with the fixed price menu. Great choices. Had Spanish mackerel escaviche, duck prosciutto. Then on to cured foie gras and an octopus dish. Both were unique and flavorful. Main courses were scallops and monkfish. Again creatively prepared and presented. Dessert was quince cremeux and caraibe ganache. Saw... More

My husband and I loved absolutely EVERYTHING about this place. The service, the wine, the food, the ambiance... Next time, we'd like to sit in front of the kitchen. Can't wait to go back!

Had an accident this day so couldn't complete a full tasting menu but what I had as a selection from the menu was wonderful - top Portuguese food deserving of its ratings and Michelin hat.

Aldea is a Michelin one star Portuguese restaurant so I had high expectations. I was seated at the bar facing the kitchen. Normally, I would order a tasting menu but I preferred what I could get ordering a la carte. I ordered two appetizers and an entree. My first appetizer, a foie gras dish, was very good. I wasn't as... More

We attended New York magazine's New York Taste earlier this month; 50 restaurants offered a taste of their menu. Aldea created a very special dish of "porridge" with smoked mussels that was superb. The dish inspired me to smoke my own mussels; the canned version are basically inedible to my taste. Technique: steam the mussels and remove them immediately when... More

This restaurant has a Michelin star and cooks Portuguese food so we decided to try it when in NY. We chose the 4 courses dinner menu and the highlights were: Bacalhau a Bras (starter), Polvo (1st dish), the Monkfish which was tender and crispy with a fennel flavor. The menu is composed by several portuguese dishes with a Chef signature... More

I thought long and hard on that title! The attention to detail remarkable! That alone should earn them the highest rating. The plates may look small, due to so much flavor your mouth and brain can only take. The food was amazing, everything worked well together from the recommended drinks to deserts pairings. This is a true gem of the... More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighbourhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets- much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being the home of a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
