Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Service from in the door to out the door = A++ Cocktails = Insanely good. A++ Atmosphere = Inviting. A++ We were walk-ins on a Thursday night. We were welcomed and served flavorful cocktails. BIG bonus points for the staff going into quick action to...contact us about a left behind piece of property.More

After flying in cattle cars to NYC and making way via multi-modal transportation to one's lackluster lodging - where a cheeky check-in cashier led one to look longingly to unrewarding unpacking, there's not a better Midtown East locale to have top flight libations deftly fashioned...in swanky Victorian surrounds. Best cocktail experience in many years. Thanks Bob!More

The ‘welcome’ couldn’t have been any more inhospitable. After much consulting of the seating plan, sucking of lips and shrugging of shoulders, the girl on the front door said she’d try to find us somewhere, leaving us in no doubt she was doing us a...huge favor…we really should’ve left at that point. It’s a mediocre room at best with any atmosphere sucked out by over preened waitstaff and anxious guests…lots of far better alternatives with much better speakeasy vibesMore

We came here for a bachelor party - due to their intimate atmosphere, we had to split into separate groups. They were really diligent at keeping the atmosphere and vibe of the space by asking us multiple times (which i respect) to stay in our...groups. Everything from the ordering experience, the service, and the drinks were great.More

When we arrived we were told our reservation had been canceled even though I had booked it a few weeks in advance. There was zero notice about this and claimed they had a policy for why they did it. When I asked to see the...policy they refused to show me. We made an hour long trek into the city just to be told at the front door that we could not come in. Pretentious and rude service all around and spoiled a birthday.More

Wouldn’t even let us in even with reservations! They said they canceled our reservation without any notice. We made reservation for two tables but they said this wasn’t allowed and wouldn’t let us talk to anybody even though it was for a surprise birthday. Then...they said there was a $500 reservation fee even though their website makes no notice of it on their website. Extremely taken aback by the absolute rudeness.More

Delicious range of cocktails. Service was speedy. It is a little expensive if you’re on a budget. Beautiful little bar with intimate seating. We walked in and got a table straight away.

My husband and I visited Raines on a Tuesday night in Feb 2020. The atmosphere in the bar was really cool and unlike some of the other reviews of Raines we found our waitress to be very friendly and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed our time...here. We booked a table online prior to our trip as we had been told about the possible waiting times for tables. Would definitely recommend for a cool place to have a few after dinner drinks.More

Great late night lounge. The staff is friendly and efficient. Decor is classic speakeasy with couches, curtains, dim lighting, etc.. Great mixologists got me out of my comfort zone, and I thank them!

A “speakeasy” but not hard to find, since they have a website that gives their address. A dimly lit atmosphere where you may be sharing a booth with another couple, in our case a couple who were making out to the point of being rudiculous...and annoying. Cocktails are $18, and in our case not very strong. For that price I would expect a little more alcohol. For my money there are nicer bars that serve better cocktails.More

If you're considering spending time and money in this place, I would urge you to go elsewhere. Don't just read the highly rated reviews, read the bad ones and you'll get a better view of reality at Raines. The staff was increadilby rude. We were...told that they couldn't accomodate a party larger than six. We told them that we were expecting two more people join us, making a total of seven, but the sixth and seventh weren't likely to overlap. We said that if they did overlap, then we would split up or go to the bar downstairs. Our friends did actually overlap and we were preparing to go to the other bar when an extremely rude female came flaming in and literally took a drink out of one of our guests' hands! She said we were over the max of six people and someone would have to leave. Now I understand their policy, but the place was half empty! There was no reason for her to be so rude. Given that we paid over $100 for six drinks, they should have been very grateful for our business. We will NEVER go back to Raines and warn all TA readers to not waste your time and money there. It was terrible.More

I had heard amazing things about this place and had to see for myself. Let me tell ya, this place lives up to the hype. The Rains Law Room is a secret speakeasy you will definitely want to seek out. We arrived and put our...name on the list. We waited about an hour, not bad for a party of 3 on a weekend. To ensure the wait was not longer, the hostess allowed us to hang in the back bar while we waited for our table. The drinks and atmosphere are as you would hope and expect. A throwback to a bygone era, drinks are delicious and potent, the environment was intimate. Service was prompt and on point. My wife and I seek out speakeasies all over the world and this is a must visit. The only issue we had was a drunk guy harassing/hitting on our 24 yr old daughter. He was clearly drunk and service should have been cut. He made our experience less than perfect. With that being said, as soon as I brought this to the attention of staff they watched us and stepped in immediately when he came back. I would absolutely visit The Rains Law Room again and encourage anyone to, do not let this prevent you from going. If you frequent bars/clubs this is bound to happen eventually. The prompt attention of the staff once I brought it to their attention was impressive. The staff really do care that you enjoy yourself. Please stop in, you won’t regret it!More

Arrived. Provided cell number. Was told 1 hr wait. We said cool. They sent us a text message 90 minutes later. We rushed back and even messaged the place back to confirm. We rushed back (got there in 10 minutes flat) came to the door...and the person at the door told us that she removed us from the list. Claiming we were late? We were 5 minutes early? Very rude about it too. Not cool.More
