The location of this restaurant - midtown between the theater district and garment district - means lots of tourists. Lots. (of which...I am one!) I wanted try New York Szechuan and this was the closest to my hotel. The restaurant doesn't seem to cater to tourists, which I like. More native chinese speakers than english when I was there. The... There are a number of Szechuan restaurants in this area of NYC, but this the best! The food is hot and spicy (if you like it that way, which I do) and the portions are big so you get value for money. But don't be tempted to order too many dishes as you will probably be taking them home!

We were staying in Midtown and were hungry for Chinese food but didn't want to trek all the way back to Chinatown to get a decent meal. After a bit of research, the Szechaun Gourmet looked like a great option and nearly all the reviews were positive. Now, we arrived at the restaurant at about 3.30pm on a Sunday and... More

The food at Szechuan Gourmet is consistently delicious and plentiful. When we visit family in NYC, we try to always stop by for lunch. Our favorite dishes are the eggplant and chicken, beef chow fun and baby shrimp with chili miso.

Szechuan food is not so common in England so I took the time to eat at a couple of these places in New York. Tasty rich and filling comfort food I was very impressed.

We were not adventurous enough to try some of the more exotic selections on the menu so perhaps our more traditional western picks didn't do the place justice. From the line to get in, the vast selection, and quick service we can see why it's popular. Our meals were served quickly and portions were reasonable.

Came with a friend who speaks Mandarin. Good Chinese food. Service was also Chinese type. Doesn't have WiFi.

The food here was just lovely. We loved the chicken. The menu is good and has a good diversity. A good Chinese experience

The beef noodles were good, service attentive. An average chinese restaurant in a busy city. Location fairly central, not far from Bryant Park

Ducked in here on New Year's Even for some quick takeout. Had our food in 10 minutes and it was hot, fresh, and very tasty. Worth checking out if you're in Midtown and have a Chinese craving.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
