I live in Texas, but have always made In Vino one of my places to dine when I visit New York for the last several years. The food was amazing, it had an impressive wine list, wonderful service, and great décor and vibe, all on a back street in the East Village/Alphabet City. Unfortunately they closed their doors on 5/16/16.... More

There is something about InVino that makes it the perfect spot for a winter dinner with family of friends. It's welcoming and rustic, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the food is hearty and delicious. Their lasagne is legendary and there are many delights on the wine list. They have a three course winter special that will have you... More

Went here last minute after the wait at another 'No Reservation" restaurant's wait was 2 hours. Had been before and hoped for the best. After giving our name and phone number we were called inside of 20 minutes and given a no show's table. Wine list is great, menu is small but everything was perfect. Already looking forward to going... More

A group of us dined at In Vino after a show this past week and were so impressed with the menu and personal service from wine selection to entree at this intimate restaurant. From mango glazed burrata with roasted vegetables atop Italian Bread to squid-ink linguini with an extraordinary sauce with roasted fresh corn and other veggies and paper thin... More

They added several miscellaneous expenses to our bill- we requested tap water and they provided $8 bottles which they put on our bill, and "refilled". It was quite apparent they were acting dodgy and immediately removed it. Additionally they charged extra for not including meat or cheese as one of our guests was vegan and said "it was off menu".... I've taken several wine tasting classes here. They're the best deal ever. The owner is nice, really knowledgeable and makes the classes informative, fun and unpretentious. Each time, my friends and I have stayed for dinner and the service has always been good and the food very tasty. It's also a great date spot. I plan to keep returning.

In full disclosure, I know the bartender who works there that is why I wanted to check it out because Matt worked at some other great restaurants in P-town, CA and NYC. Matt is smart and fun and has this incredible ability to connect with his patrons. This time was no different. He pours a great drink. I think he... More

Tasty Italian offerings to go with a comprehensive, mostly Italian wine list made for an excellent meeting place for drinks and appetizers. half price long island oysters for happy hour were excellent and I would return next time I'm in town.

Rated as one of the NYC's Best Wine Bars by ZAGAT SURVEY, In Vino offers a cozy cave-like atmosphere, knowledgeable service, and well over one hundred unique and unusual wines culled from all over Italy. We are also known for our authentic, rustic Italian fare. Our meatballs and lasagna are among the best in the city, and our porcini ravioli in a truffle cream sauce can’t be beat. Check out our seasonal specials and our list of artisanal cheeses. Sundays also bring in a crowd for our select list of half-price bottles, and Mondays bring in cheeselovers for our $1 per slice night!

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
