Okay, so we've been going to Phil's since they were in Hillcrest. Even waiting out their closure there until they could reopen in the same spot. We were living in Chicago and called monthly to check on their progress. Well, no worries because now we have several locations from which to choose. Great sauce, tender meat and flavorful fries. Great... More

I was told by my hotel receptionist that this was the place to go in town. We arrived around 4:30 in the afternoon. It was already getting busy but no wait. I found the BBQ sauce sparce and too much vinegar for my taste. The chicken I had was very dry to the point you couldn't eat it. We added... More

Recommended by motel personnel as best restaurant in San Diego. They were right!!!! If we hasn't been told it was great, we would have known by long waiting line. Very reasonable prices and very large portions. GREAT service and very friendly associates. Eat there two nights in a row. Ribs are to die for.

Not the best atmosphere (semi fast food) or prices, BUT we come for the food (and so do lots of others so you might have to wait in line). Good menu choices and excellent barbeque

The best in San Diego county. Love the ribs. Now that they have a few locations Phil's is easy to get to.

When the line runs around the building, you know the barbecue is good! Try the pork broham sandwich....served with cole slaw on top or on the side. The ribs are amazing...the meat falls off the bones, Tables for large families, and a bar with ice cold beer. A place to love!

Phil's BBQ restaurant chain is considered a must-visit in SD by some, but we find it just ok. After being here numerous times over the years, their meat continues to be somewhat dry and waaaaay too much salt! Tried to be healthy last go-around with a salad, but it was little more than a side-salad, not entree size as normally... More

Description
For the past 17 years, BBQ lovers across San Diego County have turned to restaurateur Phil Pace to satisfy a singular craving: mesquite-grilled baby back ribs, beef ribs, chicken and sandwiches. Serving thousands of customers a day from a diverse clientele of skateboarders to Bentleys, Phil has built his foundation on consistency, quality, freshness, and friendly service. "We thrive on providing each guest with the 'Phil's Experience', which basically comes down to organized chaos," laughs owner Phil Pace. "The biggest reason behind our success is our loyal customers who have supported us and waited in line for a taste of BBQ for the past fifteen years. "Since opening its doors in San Diego in 1998, Phil's BBQ has served over one million pounds of BBQ sauce (enough to fill Shamu's tank).
