Delicious food and atmosphere. We tasted fried squash blossoms. The pizza was devine and we were lucky enough to go on $10 Pizza night. The wait staff provided excellent service! Can't wait to go back!

On a rainy day in San Diego, we were looking for a lunch spot before flying home. Nice menu with lots of choices. We each ordered the 1/2 sandwich and soup. My sandwich was a brie and pear; my husband had the hero sandwich. Our soup was Tuscan bean. Our waiter/bartender was so attentive and knew we had a time frame... More

We enjoyed a delicious dinner in January a few years ago so we decided to go back for lunch when we were in town last week, and we were happy to find that things are still firing on all cylinders! Service was attentive, food was all delicious ( we wanted to order so many of the items) and the ambience... More

This place was highly recommended so we gave it a shot. If youre looking for authentic italian food, this is not the place. On the contrary, if youre looking for a hip, modern italian style joint, this is the place. Great bar, great setting, good food.

Always consistent good. The small plates are my favorite it also has a fun bar scene , there is a wine shop inside and the bartender will open for youth bottle you buy.

We had lunch here. Parking is very limited so we ended up parking in Balboa Park and then walking (which was fine!). The restaurant is very nicely decorated but it is a bit small. The tables are very close to one another, so conversations are not private. They definitely prefer reservations. The food was okay, some of the flavors seemed... More

When traveling with friends to San Diego, we had the opportunity to dine at this wonderful restaurant. We started with a charcuterie board which was one of the best we have sampled. Based on our water's recommendation, we had a pinon noir which was outstanding. The wine selection was priced at retail, plus a $9.00 corkage fee which made the... More

Went to dinner with a friend there last evening and what a lovely restaurant. We ate at the bar - did have some happy hour wine/drinks first with a nice discounted price and the charred brussel sprouts were delicious as an appetizer. I ordered the puttanesca shrimp pasta. Perfectly cooked pasta - fresh shrimp - sauce wonderful. My friend had... More

A real gem. Charming atmosphere ( very nice lighting) and outstanding service from a young woman from Yorkshire ( Dolly was her name?). We had a lovely chopped salad and scrumptious spinach and bacon pizza. Try the non-alcoholic giner beer cocktail. The peanut butter bar dessert was one of the most delicious treats I have ever had. Very reasonable prices... More

Description
CUCINA urbana is a California inspired Italian Kitchen and Wine Shop. Owner Tracy Borkum's flair for combining great ambience, award-winning cuisine and unparalleled service are once again starring components in this Urban Kitchen Group creation. The restaurant is being heralded as the leader in the new regime of affordable dining in San Diego and has been the subject of praise from numerous local and national publications.

The restaurant's interior evokes a modern kitchen combined with the history and comfort of an old rustic country farmhouse. A touch of home, splash of bohemia and many objects new and old attract the eye. A focus on raw, sustainable material and reclaimed local material is found throughout. Discarded fence boards recovered from San Diego county wrap columns, walls, service stations and the back bar.

Chef Joe Magnanelli's menu offers affordable selections of vasi + antipasti + boards + insalate + pizza + pasta + piatti + dolce.

His whimsical expression of Italian classics coupled with the use of the freshest local produce, and organic and sustainable products comprise a diverse menu with all items at or below $20. Whether dining traditionally or 'family style', guests have become hooked on favorites such as stuffed fried squash blossoms, ricotta gnudi, braised black cod and veal piccata.

Wines of 'The Americas,' including California, Washington, Oregon, Argentina, Chile and Italy are among the major wine-producing regions offered in CUCINA urbana's retail priced Wine Shop. Guests are invited to visit the restaurant's retail area to select a bottle for lunch or dinner (a corkage fee of $8 applies) or purchase wine to go.

Additionally, CU plays host to a monthly 'Winemakers Series,' where guests are invited to enjoy hors d'oeuvres, taste a variety of wines and mingle with a winemaker in a casual, informal setting.

- Strong commitment to seasonality + sustainability
- organic + local product used whenever possible
- wines from the Americas and Italy - sold at retail pricing
- special discounts for cases of wine to go!
- Local artisan beers + italian favorites
- housemade infused liquors + specialty cocktails
