The tacos were overpriced and smaller than the carnitas appetizer that was half the price. The mezcalita was okay but did not taste like mango at all. The server was unenthusiastic and we heard a table over complain about the ceviche tasting strange. Instead of...offering to remove it from the bill, the server tried to push a free dessert on them instead, which they argued about. Much better food at a fraction of the price elsewhere.More

The food was fairly good. The portion size of the ribeye tacos was small for the price. The sea bass was very good. The seafood risotto and salmon were OK. The service was horrid-very slow and inattentive. Surprising, as it was not crowded when we...were there (4PM).More

Awesome ambiance! The food is great too. Sitting on the enclosed balcony we had a great view. But the interior is more impressive

Absolutely amazing food and the tequila is the best! The mole’ is very traditional and flavorful! Very nice dining experience that will be part of your trip for years to come.

Driving around San Diego looking at the sights and it was time for lunch. Reviewed good So we stopped and we really enjoyed the meal and service. Would definitely go back on our next trip to the west coast.

Delicious Mexican cuisine, friendly service, a great value! This restaurant is located at the southern end of old town and is perfect for a lunch prior to your walk through the historic part of Old Town.

We love Margaritas and Mexican food!!!! This restaurant is one of the best. It was a busy Saturday night in Old Town but we were able to eat at this superb restaurant without a reservation. The food was excellent but the margaritas were somewhat disappointing....Great upscale restaurant experience!!!More

We went to El Agave while on vacation. Didn’t have a reservation. When we showed up, they said they only take reservations. I asked, do you have any available? And she told me, no, we have too many right now. THERE WAS NO ONE THERE.

El Agave offers moles & other choices not generally found in typical US Mexican restaurants. Restaurant is 1 flight upstairs from small parking lot. Open deck & inside room are decorated with collection of 2000 Tequilas. Restaurant is close to Old Town.

The portions were large, chips and salsa/guac were so good and the freshly made/rolled corn tortillas were a hit. The atmosphere was very casual and down to earth while the service was attentive and friendly. The margaritas were not very potent on the first round...so I mentioned it to the server and he came back with round 2 and winked that this one should be better mixed and it was! The music was great too.More
