When my husband was a teenager, he lived in Mexico City so while visiting San Diego he wanted an authentic Mexican dinner, not the usual Tex-Mex. We found what he was looking for at El Agave. Some what small and cozy with about 2 thousand tequila bottles in glass cases throughout the restaurant. We had the house Margarita which is... More

This is a very Authentic Mexican food place. The place is very nice inside. Clean, and you feel like you are 5 star dining. For us Texas Tex Mex people the food was a bit too authentic for us but if open to a true Mexican meal in sure it would be wonderful. The Specislty is Moles. Drinks and service... More

Great Mexican food. Try the 'Trilogia de Moles' to get a great perspective on moles. There is a green, red and traditional mole. They all have a nice level of heat to complement the flavor of the mole. The service was great and helped us through the menu.

I only had drinks in the bar but the couple next to us had a dinner and it looked fantastic and they said it was great. Not your typical Mexican food but really high end gourmet dishes. I saw at least 5 different mole dishes. Caters to fish mostly.

I ordered the Ceviche and the Tampiquena. Both were delicious. Steak was tender and the sides were well presented and flavorful.

If you like tequila then you need to check this place out. They have the largest collection of tequilas I've ever seen. From the cheap to the "it's how much?, wow"

Small intimate upstairs place with thousands of tequilas and covered outdoor seating. There is a full bar, but don't miss the tequila drinks. The excellent food is more authentic Mexican and less Tex-Mex. For example the braised lamb shank was exceptional. There are the usual chips, salsa and sides. The desserts are creative and delicious. The service is efficient. Prices... More

El Agave serves delicious home style and street vendor type meals that one would find in Mexico. The restaurant is not Tex-Mex. The appetizer was very plentiful for three people. We couldn't finish all of it. I could have made the appetizer my meal with a bowl of soup as the main course If you like chicken or pork with... More

Lived in San Diego my whole life. Finally came here for lunch. Why did I wait so long?! Excellent tacos! So many different types of tacos. Very cool restaurant. Will have to try for dinner.
