This was our second time at the Black Rose and we hope to return on St. Patrick's Day! 2 orders of fish & chips and 2 orders of the rueban at the table; excellent pub fare.

But we stayed for lunch. We found the Black Rose in the search for the best guiness in Boston. The guiness was excellent. the fish and chips comes in a lunch portion which was big enough. The fish was delicious, lightly fried and fresh. The fries and Cole slaw which come with it were also very good. The shepherds pie... More

Located in a convenient area of Downtown Boston right at the State Street metro stop. Pub is quite large, friendly service and good food. Typical fish and chips and Reuben. Right near Quincy market which makes for a nice walk.

The Black Rose has been my go to spot for meeting friends whenever I visit Boston- friendly staff that knows how to pull a pint of stout correctly every time. It is located in the heart of the tourist/financial district so it is always a mix of regulars, business types and tourist families. Solid pub fare.

We arrived at a little after 4pm to hopefully beat the presidents weekend dinner rush. The place was already very crowded but they were able to seat us within 10-15 minutes. We weren't expecting the band to already be playing which was nice. The band was also quite good Irish tunes. Really putting you in the mood to drink a... More

Boston is full of Irish pubs but as you always know the ones with the neon Shamrock are never Irish!! Black rose is genuine Irish pub with great music, a vibrant ambience and drinks. (Of course, it continues to amaze me as to the reason people drink Buds or Bud Light when there are obviously better beers in this world!... More

It is a genuine Irish pub with better than average pub food. Fish and chips were excellent. Service very friendly; waitstaff offered to divide dishes for us. Reasonable prices.

The Black Rose is authentic Irish food and music, even if it is a bit touristy. I love visiting this restaurant. Make sure you go during happy hour and hear Frank play. His music is part of the charm.

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.
