Hosted a Grad party for 30 people. Absolutely outstanding. We squeezed in tight but it didn't matter with friends and family. We were offered 5 different choices for meals. They were dinner portions even though we were there for a late lunch. Staff was very attentive and kept our glasses filled. Everyone took home leftovers as the portions were generous.... More

We saw a good review for this tiny restaurant and decided to try it when we were in town for the night. I should preface by saying that I was not even inclined toward eating when we arrived; we had had an indulgent local fare lunch and were still verging on full. The food at Carmen, however, was so delectable,... More

Best Italian meal we had of our trip. Go during lunch, prices are slightly cheaper and you will NOT have to wait!

Most travelers never venture beyond Hanover St in the North End of Boston when seeking Italian food. Tucked away near Paul Revere's House in North Square is a small, cozy restaurant serving delicious, innovative food. Seek out Carmen for your next North End meal. We started with 2 small plate offerings - olives in orange and hot peppers and roasted... More

Carmen is a lovely small gem of a Italian restaurant in the North End. The food is truly impressive, Northern Italian style with a creative flair. The three of us shared three appetizers, fantastic meatballs, one pasta and an outstanding cioppino. Carmen doesn't serve desert, nor does it take reservations on line. You need to call and may need to... More

Excellent Northern Italian restaurant in North Square of the North End of Boston. It is an extremely small restaurant and you must have a reservation. I suggest that you have the small pizza with the drizzled balsamic vinegar for a starter, it is wonderful. All of the other dishes are very good. They always have a few specials and that... More

Came here at the behest of numerous North End restaurant rating recommendations. Greeting was exceptional. Downhill from there. The Boston lettuce with Gorgonzola was a ball of lettuce, unseparated, with Gorgonzola sprinkled. My mom had the pan seared tuna - which was advertised as sushi style. It arrived neither fresh nor flavorful. We tried to bring it to the attention... More

It was a Sunday evening after Thanksgiving this past November that we reserved a table at this restaurant in Boston´s North End. What a treat it was! Carmen is a super small, quaint but cosy restaurant within walking distance from Faneuil Hall. I had wanted to dine in the North End for a long time, but the area was always... More

Quaint restaurant in the North End. Booked with excitement! We had an 8:30 pm reservation. At 9:25 pm we were seated. That's unacceptable in my book. We arrived promptly at 8:30 pm--even a few minutes early. Others arrived after us but were seated before us. When I inquired whether they'd overlooked us, I was hurried back outside without an answer.... More

Staying in North End

Neighbourhood Profile
North End
Wandering around Boston’s North End can feel like being transported to Europe. Stroll down Hanover and Salem streets for the finest Italian restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and a few boutique shops. Take part in the big debate as to whether Modern Pastry or Mike’s serves a better cannoli. Before your food coma sets in, make sure to stop by historic Paul Revere’s home, and follow the Freedom Trail to Old North Church and Copp’s Hill Burying Ground. Take a rest in a cafe on Hanover street and observe the quirky, European character of the North End.
