We had a wonderful time celebrating the birthday of a high schooler. Shabu Zen was her choice. Our waitress was very helpful in explaining everything we needed to know about the sauces, condiments and cooking the food. Yes, with the exception of some appetizers you cook your own meals here! A party of 5 in a booth, we had 2... More

If you have never had hot pot before, it is definitely an experience. The food portions are generous, and it is always fresh. The service is friendly and inviting, and the atmosphere is good, although a little loud at times.

Good service. It was nice to be able to have vegetarian hotpot with no animal oil in the water. I just wish there were more color in the vegies (too bland and white).. Add some broccoli, and some eggplant.

Was in the mood for a shabu and a friend had recommended the place. Good menu, generous portion, fresh ingredients, except for some previously frozen vegetables and excellent service. Meat, pork and vegetable dishes were generous and great. Excellent service. Strongly recommend.

Good spot, lots of character, good but sort of funny service, and the hot pots are the big thing to try. We had a two broth split hot pot, vegetarian broth and chicken broth. Both were very good. We ordered the beef & chicken combo, the fish & seafood, and a vegetarian delight. All were good, but the vegetarian came... More

For the price and quality of the meats and veggies, this is one of my favorite hot pot places in Boston. It's reasonably priced and the display of the food is absolutely beautiful. It's set up to be a great place to go with a handful of friends or on a date. I recommend the lamb meat option. They don't... More

Great meal for a cold day. Would definitely eat here again. The concept of preparing your own hot pot was awesome.

We were told 45min to 1 hour we left after 2 hours. Worst restaurant experience I have ever had. We tried to give our daughter a nice weekend coming home from college and it was ruined.

We searched all over Chinatown for the best possible meal, and we found it at Shabu-Zen! We've been in Boston several days and tried just about every high end restaurant we could find or bride our way in, and I have to say the food and ethnic experience of this place is second to none of anywhere I've ever been.... Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
A small area rich in Chinese cultural influences, visit Boston’s Chinatown for some great Asian cuisine and small, authentic bakeries. Enter through the iconic Chinatown gate and stroll down Beach, Tyler, and Kneeland streets to explore the compact area. Rest your feet from walking and grab a bite at one of the many restaurants around Chinatown. From traditional Chinese to Vietnamese to Malaysian, there is a wide range of Asian food available, within easy access of South Station. At night, Chinatown becomes a late night food destination after the bars close.
