Stayed at a local B&B and went looking for a light dinner. Saw this tavern and decided to stop for appetizers. Had chicken wings and crab dip. Dip was good and really enjoyed the pretzel pieces instead of bread for dipping. Wings were great. Well cooked with a nice hot sauce. And it just happened to be $1 beer night.... More

We enjoyed a late lunch have spending the day at the Antietam Battlefield. Great menu and atmosphere in this historic tavern. Did not care for the rebel flag outside though.

Visiting sharpsburg over last four days! Comfortable place to hang out! Great food, beer specials and a good band to boot!!! Our server Angela kept us informed of specials ,when the band would be playing and gave us the best seat in the house!!! We were there for dinner and lunch so we got a taste of several different dishes... Thanks... More

My wife and I stopped in to Benders for a beer on the way to Shepherdstown. It was only the second time there. We sat at the bar and the female bartender was great. Explained the different draft beers to us and made a recommendation, which was great. We ordered some wings to try and they were very good. We... More

Great serving staff. Menu is much more than we expected with very apparent use of fresh ingredients. Very friendly environment. Food served quickly and hot. Wonderful place to visit after a battlefield walk at Antietam.

We stopped here after visiting Antietam. Food was good but this is not a quick stop and we were wanting to get on the road. They were pretty busy and it took at least a full hour to eat here. Waitress did not know what was in a crab cake when I asked her- it was on the menu and... More

Captain Benders is a decent place for lunch close to the Antietam battlefield. You cannot go wrong with the burgers or the salads here. The house wines are decent, and the service is friendly. It satisfies your needs for lunch. It is a hometown type of place where the locals go, as well as tourists.

This is a convenient place to stop for a break from sightseeing. It is a typical tavern with a good menu and good service. We found the food average. There does not seem to be many other options in this small town.

We toured the battlefield New Year's morning and were ready for lunch when we happened upon this tavern. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, not knowing what to expect. We got crab cake sandwiches, a ruben, a pork chop special, and grilled cheese, as well as fried pickles and crab dip. Everything was good! I... More
