We ate there with some friends in mid-december after their research revealed this great Italian-style (Capri) restaurant which neither of us had heard of or tried. The place was quite busy on a saturday night. In a nutshell, the prices were very high, the portions...were tiny and the quality was OK, not great. We have had Italian-style cuisine for 50 years and just returned from a trip to Italy and Sicily. We very easily spent $100 per couple and for the first time I can remember, went home hungry. I actually made a snack when we got home. In addition to the poor culinary experience, our Visa was overcharged. The owner admitted the error, but blamed the server. Now, a month later the promised credit is still less than the overcharge. We will not be going back.More

Capaninna is my favorite italian restaurant in SF. The owner makes a point to know everyone and the service is excellent. Most of the staff are from Italy and are very warm and welcoming. I love the beef carpaccio, ahi tuna with prawn risotto and...the octopus appetizer.More

My daughter and I had a wonderful dinner here early Sunday evening. Our food was fantastic (Ravioli for my daughter and LInguine with clams for me. We split a crab filled cesear which was surprising great (beacuse we did not realize there was going to...be crab meat in it. I bet I had 40 clams in my meal, so tasty and perfect. Portions were not huge, bread was great and our waiter was charming and very attentive. They have a three course meal from 5-6 (with 6 options) for $35, but we wanted pasta and did not see good options, but a good deal if you like the choices.More

My wife and I had our first date at Capannina. We returned for our anniversary and were not disappointed. From the time we took our seats we were treated like family. The food was like being in Italy. A wonderful evening.

We had high hopes of this Italian restaurant on a lovely neighbourhood street near where we were staying. We are from the UK on a 4 week trip to the USA. The menu was good, and our food was fine, prices not bad considering this...is San Francisco. Not the restaurant’s fault, but a group in a table nearby were very loud, which spoilt our experience from the start, they were using the F word and drawing attention to themselves in an unpleasant manner. They were not asked to curb the language. The service was bad. The waiter constantly went round with a big water jug topping up people’s glasses without asking first. He did this in a very casual sloppy way, first time pouring lots of water and ice cubes onto my husband’s side plate, then a second time onto my husband’s arm. He was not happy when we pointed out he should be more careful. We were served our food together, but the waiter said he was fetching my potato’s and forgot. This left us both waiting with food cooling. The potato’s only arrived after a reminder. My husband finished his food first, I was still eating my fish and we were in conversation when the waiter came and snatched my husband’s empty plate away, and almost took the bread as well. This was so rude and totally against restaurant etiquette. All plates should be cleared when everyone is finished. The final straw was when a waiter suddenly grabbed the wine bottle, which still had wine in it. I asked him to leave it. He said he wasn’t taking it away, he was about to fill my glass. His manner didn’t look like that, he looked like he was swooping on the table again clearing away before we were finished. This was not a relaxing experience at all, and since the meal cost well over $100 we expected much better service. The waiters in this place need to learn some manners, learn how to wait on tables properly and treat customers with respect. It’s a shame as it is a lovely restaurant in a nice location with good food.More

Lovely little neighborhood spot with yummy pastas and very friendly servers. We ate outside at one of the sidewalk tables; they have heat lamps, but we’re from Minnesota and thought the August nighttime temps were perfect. I love that this place has treats for all...the neighborhood dogs, who stop outside the front door and wait on their evening walks.More

Great place! Service from Antonio was terrific and the owner made you feel at home. Caesar with Dungeness crab was outstanding. I had the pork cutlet Milanese which was cooked perfectly and my wife has the brick oven chicken that was over the top. Three...scoop gelato and warm chocolate cake w/hazelnut gelato were our desserts. The chocolate cake was one of the best desserts I have ev had-very rich and decadent. Portions were very generous. We would come back here in a minute. Food was outstanding and the service and friendliness was outstanding.More

If you have visited Italy then you'll feel like you're still there. As in Italy small intimate restaurant freshly prepared food, key word fresh. If you like the veal your are the right place, some of the best veal I have ever had and well...worth going back for. Around the table dishes were fresh fish and pasta's all to rave reviews. Wine list is well balanced and fairly reasonable. Service Perfect. You have to try this place.More

Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful
backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to
the Marina. Originally the location for the
Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose
remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much
of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a
world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a
jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city.
