Cafe La Vie in Hayes Valley is your comfortable, inviting, locals (and not-so-locals like me) coffee shop hangout. A pseudo-fire place in the back, scattered tables, Wi-fi and a friendly atmosphere (along with a good cup of coffee/espresso/capuccino and tasty edibles) is what it's all about. Cafe La Vie also loves your pampered pooches. Owner George Hom has a great... More

The cafe offers a wide menu of drinks and lunch/brunch sandwiches for affordable prices. The service is good and very friendly. Tables offer power outlets and there is free wifi available.

Café La Vie is a vibrant example of the dying breed of the neighborhood voyage and coffee shop. Strong coffee and espressos, local ownership, room to sit and talk. WiFi and power strips. And big cannister of chocolate powder to top off any foamy beverage. Stephanie the barista and owner is super friendly and positive. Plug in and recharge to... More

Very nice staff and atmosphere. I couldn't stay very long, but I felt so welcomed there. Love the place.

This is an extremely relaxed venue. I found it quite comfort able. Mostly for locals. Thankfully quiet. Good mocha latte and friendly service.

Great French coffee, and a wonderful menu. Also a great hangout feel, complete with newspapers for all to share

I've lived in this neighborhood over 5 years and only discovered this place a few months ago. It's a little hidden off Hayes Street but worth finding where it is. It seems to have quite the contingent of local patrons who come back a lot, many people seem to know each other by name. Inside is pretty small, but it... More

This is the place the neighborhood people go to. The coffee drinks are great, service friendly and great chilled out atmosphere.

Stayed at nearby motel with terrible breakfast. This place had great coffee, good bagels (and I am from the east coast and have high standards). My coffee and buttered bagel cost $3.05. Woman working there was friendly and knew all the regulars. You can also make a breakfast bagel sandwich with your own choices.

Cheapest place to get coffee in Hayes Valley. Bring in your mug and get filled with coffee for 75 cents!

Staying in Hayes Valley

Neighbourhood Profile
Hayes Valley
Chock full of designer boutiques, art galleries, funky shoe stores, and great restaurants, it’s hard to imagine Hayes Valley once languished in the shadow of a major freeway. Its removal allowed for the creation of an attractive boulevard on Octavia Street with a community park at its center and dozens of trendy businesses to satisfy visitors looking for a stylish respite.
