Went to People's Cafe because we planned on spending the day shopping in the Haight and found their Groupon offer. Didn't know what to expect, and was very pleasantly surprised. Food was excellent. Had mushroom goat cheese omelette. Perfection. Potatoes on the side were great, which surprised me as I'm not much for breakfast potatoes. The fresh juice selection was... More

My husband & I had breakfast here on Thanksgiving morning, so pleased it was open. Plenty of choice on the menu. We both had French toast, which had cinnamon in very tasty. It came with sausage or bacon & eggs. Much more than I could manage but all very tasty. We both had the house coffee which was really good,... More

This place is a little gem , friendly staff and delicious food. I had a burger with sweet potato fries. Hubby had fish and chips . It was served quickly and tasted very good. They also have a clean bathroom out the back which is a plus around this area.

After seeing the Painted Ladies and making the decent hike to Haight-Ashbury, we walked into People's to reenergize. We went with the cocoa banana smoothie and could not have been happier. The perfect balance between chocolate and banana flavors! If you dine in the smoothie comes in what we assumed to be a vintage milk glass bottle.

Having never really spent much time in Haight-Ashbury, my family and I were looking for a cheap good local place to eat. This restaurant showed up on Groupon and I thought we would take a chance. I am extremely glad we did. With all of the vibrant colors and activity in Haight, it would be easy to miss this cafe... More

Lovely place if you want a coffee or a smoothie. We had a burger and calamari which were both tasty.

Ten of us were on Haight Street looking for food. Some local knowledge recommended People's Cafe, and they were right. This is a nice, casual, easy place to eat. You order and pay at the counter, which makes it much easier than trying to split a bill. Food was good. Nothing sensational, but better than average. Good friendly atmosphere. You... More

Wanted to satisfy my bacon craving! Had bacon, eggs, hash browns and was satisfied. The French Toast with sausage was very filling as my friend ate every bite!

The first two times we visited were just to grab coffee and smoothie (both really good). Last time we were there, I had dinner and it was just perfect.

Staying in Haight-Ashbury

Neighbourhood Profile
The area surrounding the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets, “The Haight” still exudes vibes of the 1960s counterculture as a haven for vintage clothes, music, pop posters and body piercing shops. While the Summer of Love ended decades ago, Haight-Ashbury has turned into a melting pot of hippies, hipsters, and professionals. Walking through its streets can still feel like stepping back in time. A must-see neighbourhood for most music fans, it’s easy to see why these streets attracted the likes of the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. You’ll likely be content in The Haight day or night, just be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
