If you're looking for a wonderful meal with fresh tastes of Japan, this is the right place. The 9 course meal was too much. Really too much. Too much food, too many choices, and too good to skip or not finish. The service was great, the sake was fantastic, the Kobe beef was to die for, the sushi and sashimi... More

My spouse took me to Kappa for a special anniversary, and I was totally surprised. First, there's the slightly mysterious experience of showing up at unmarked, almost invisible wooden door inside an unremarkable building in Japantown. Next, the door slides open, and a hostess in full kimono greats you by name. Inside, a tiny dining room. Most of the seats... More

It is a restaurant serves "real" Japanese food, I pay my visit every year after I moved to Bay area.

Solid place to eat. The biggest downside is that it is extremely hard to find and its so tiny that is is hard to find a spot. Had to come twice for a reservation. Food is good! nothing to say about it. Very talented chef that could do bigger thing.

When I said Hidden...this place is HIDE away in the 2nd floor. You will not see any sign from outside the building ..until you standing right in front of it , with a tinny poster at the side of the door, again, a sliding door that tuck this restaurant away from the crow,.. The owner ( Chef)had this place for... More

Up the stairs in front of 1700A, one floor up. Open Mondays to Saturdays from 6pm. Recommend booking as it's tiny. Don't miss!

We had the omakase dinner and loved every bite. Each course was representative of the various styles of Japanese cuisine and you can tell each dish was carefully prepared and presented. I enjoyed watching the the chef prepare some of the dishes at the counter, especially when he pulled out the wasabi stalk and prepared the fresh wasabi for the... More

If you are looking for an authentic, Japanese meal, look no further! Kappa is hard to find, but a delight in a small setting. Personable owners (wife wears a kimono and serves, husband is the chef); beautiful and delicious food - a very memorable experience if you like Japanese food, (and I don't mean sushi boats or combo platters).

A 'must try' for anyone passionate about authentic Japanese cuisine, specifically the Koryori style. This is a tiny establishment (8 seats) with a limited opening. Like most guests, we opted for the seven course omakase (chef's menu) at $85/ea. Each dish was a work of art: extremely refined and expertly prepared and presented. All ingredients were of superb quality. The... More

Kappa is not your typical Japanese restaurant. What makes it special is that it focuses on omakase, which means diners let the chef decide what he thinks is best in terms of the food that he would like to serve you that night. This is an excellent dining experience for people who are serious about Japanese food. Sometimes people only... More
