One of the few things I will go to the Marina for. Upleveled Italian cuisine that blows other places away.

I rarely venture to the Marina, though I have a couple of friends I like to visit there from about 15 minutes away. They raved about A 16 and I was excited to go. I heard the food and drinks were good, service was good, people watching were good. I took the $33 prime time Lyft ride to the Marina... More

We are visiting from Canada and are staying near The Presidio. We searched for local restaurants and came across A16 which we decided to try. Well, we were not disappointed!! The owner, Shelley helped us with the wine choice and our waiter, Darren was outstanding! The food was tasty, well presented and just delicious. Overall, we give this restaurant a... More

Met up with a friend who lives in the area and he suggested we have lunch there. Nice location away from the main street. Food was excellent, we had the three course tasting menu. The burrata and meatballs were outstanding. We started lunch a bit late at 1:30pm so it was less crowded (i assume). Service for me was excellent... More

Hopping on a Friday night we were glad we made reservations ahead and as we left people were grumbling about a 45 minute wait. Service was great. The waiter was friendly and helpful and picked a red wine for me that was tasty, just what I described and not crazy expensive. We started with the castelfranco salad - chicory and... More

We were looking forward to our visit (it was our last night in San Francisco) and we had made a Saturday night reservation. We were seated at a 2-Top in the back room of the restaurant. Our first impression was of the oppressive heat in the dining area. Our second impression was of the noise level-we literally had to lean... More

Darling Husband and I happened in here looking for a light, late, lunch. We sat at the bar and shared the $25 tasting menu which consisted of a frisée salad with pomegranate seeds, meatballs in a lovely tomato broth, and a little cookie plate for dessert. The owner was up front sampling wines from some Italian vintners and they generously... More

Having read about this restaurant in a compressive book about pizzas we had high expectations to our meal in A16. An we weren't disappointed. Well tasting starters and creative pizzas with a crispy and delicious crust made us full far too fast. They had a very good selection of wines by the glass. The place was packed, the atmosphere was... More

A16 is one of my favs! I always try to eat here at least once when I come back into town. Their pizzas are amazing and they have a great wine selection of wines you probably have never heard of. One of my favorite pizza's is the funghi. SO GOOD!! They are always packed for dinner so get there early!... More

Love, love, love A-16. I make the pilgrimage each time I'm in San Francisco without fail. No two visits are the same. The menu changes with the season and reflects what can be locally sourced for the ultimate freshness. Excellent service, wonderful food and great wine list. You will not be disappointed.

A16 is a restaurant and wine bar bringing the delicious and hospitable traditions of lively Campania to San Francisco. The chic, rustic/modernist venue is named after the motorway that transverses the South of Italy. The restaurant features wood oven-fired Neapolitan Pizza and other specialties of Campania such as Maccaronara with ragu napoletana and house-made ricotta salata. The wine bar serves 40 wines by the glass and half bottle carafe. The list is 60 percent Italian, mostly from the South, and the other 40 percent is New World, celebrating premiere Italian varietals grown in California along with many California wines.

Staying in Marina District

Neighbourhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighbourhood into a party-going hotspot.
