Although this restaurant is no longer at the Ferry Plaza, it still has great fresh seafood. We arrived early for "happy hour" (2:30 - 5:30) and enjoyed two dozen fresh oysters at $1:50 each and good wine at $5:00 a glass. We stayed for dinner and enjoyed grilled octopus and sole-rapped crab at a reasonable price for San Francisco. The... More

The dedicated owner has a passion for the freshest seafood and along with the attentive staff attracts many locals and lucky tourists as well. Fabulous happy hour with fresh oysters and local fish directly from pier 45 just moments away. Watch the world go by from an attractive bar with an attentive knowledgeable staff or from comfortable seating in the... More

With a break in the rain, we decided upon a day in North Beach. Where else to go for fresh seafood when in San Francisco? Having visited Ferry Plaza Seafood on more that one occasion at their prior location, and having visited them just after the move, with each time being memorable, a return visit was clearly in order. We... More

We had dinner here on a Saturday night and our food was delicious. We at at the bar directly in front of the oysters being shucked. It is has a nice ambiance and the seafood choices are many. We started with a cocktail and had the clam chowder, arugula salad, linguini ala vongole and pan seared petrale sole for dinner.... More

A jewel of a restaurant among the local restaurants and bars on Union Street in North Beach. The owner has a Wholesale Sea Food Brokerage that serves Restaruants, so the sea food is always Frech and excellent. THe OWner is alow very fussy about qualtiy of the food she serves.

Came here on whim walking by it. Walked in and didn't want to leave. Great atmosphere, $1.50 oysters that are incredibly fresh, and great deals on glasses of wine. We had a white to go with the oysters. Definitely recommend!

We ate an early dinner on a Saturday night and lucked out as it was happy hour. Oysters were $1.50, sangria and beers were $5. The oysters were very tasty. We ordered 6 then got another 6 as they were so good. The Combo Louis salad had crab and shrimp. My husband had shrimp quesadillas and my sons shared fish... More

We were accommodated at the bar despite a full restaurant. The fried oysters were simply brilliant. Not over cooked nor over battered. Simply fresh! I thought about cancelling the lobster salad for more oysters but I'm glad I didn't. The serving was not huge but the flavours and presentation were first class. My wife had the fish and chips with... More

Ferry Plaza is probably our favorite seafood restaurant in all of San Francisco. The service is friendly and attentive, the sea food is impeccably fresh and delicious, and the portions are generous. AND, it's a restaurant that you can go to with your best friends and enjoy good conversation!!!! That aspect is a truly welcome relief from the din of... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
