My father-in-law and I ate an epic meal here. I say epic because we spent nearly 4 hours chatting and enjoying the atmosphere that the restaurant provided. The wait staff exemplified professional servers. They displayed an intuition for when to visit the table to offer service - there was certainly no rush though no long waits to see the server.... The white table cloths & ample space speak well, also the cozy bar, then the starched napkins at your place. Bresaola served with crescione & an aromatic olive oil, so temping together with the fresh look of the bread that I had to taste & was rewarded. The petto di pollo con pepperoncino was what it promised, quite sharp The... More

Really enjoyed this restaurant. I had fresh grilled seafood which was superb. It was, however, one of the few dishes without gluten or dairy. I had to ask them to hold the cheese and croutons on the salad. Surprising in trendy California. Others in my party loved the pasta, meat balls, and petto di pollo con pepperinato. Too few California... More

Came here for my youngest son's birthday & food tasting for my oldest son's rehearsal dinner. It is located at the Levi's Plaza on Battery & Embarcadero overlooking a waterfall. The restaurant is not visible from Embarcadero but hidden behind tall shrubs & trees. There is ample parking along the street. Parking is free after 6 pm. For starters, we... More

Stopped in for lunch after walking down the 400 steps from Coit Tower (just hang a left). Slowish service but fantastic wood-fired pizza and house salad. Their complimentary olive bread with oil & balsamic is fantastic. A bit pricey, but excellent overall.

I have been there 10 times I imagine, and every time it is solid. It is really convenient for tourists, at least those who long for a quality meal without pretence.

Had dinner with office colleagues in December 2016. Despite not being very busy the service was extremely slow. It took 2 hours to get starters and the mains served for a group of 7. The quality of food was very average. The pastas were dry and the sauce was not flavor some. The fish was good and the focaccia was... More

Our son chose this as our first restaurant to try on a four day visit to San Francisco. I cannot say enough great things about our visit. First of all, the restaurant is beautiful. We were seated immediately, and offered a drink and bread while we waited for our son. Our meals were all delicious and our cappuccino's were probably... More

We thought we were under dressed, but we sat at the bar, and the 2 bartenders were helpful and great. Great drink, ravioli and pizza.

We eat here every time we come to San Francisco. The setting and menu are high style Italian. Service is efficient and unobtrusive. You will find classic dishes as well as correct innovations of Italian cuisine. Wood fired pizza options are all great. Good Italian wine selections at a fair price.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
