Went on a Sunday night extremely quiet which was surprising since our Saturday night visits were always bustling and noisy. Food is good. Entrees include pasta and a vegetable. Full bar, good wine list. We didn't order dessert with our coffees and were treated to a large peice of delicious terramisu to share. Liked that old school touch!

Celebrated retirement party with family of 8. Excellent service. Great classic North Beach location. Good food. Nice, quiet atmosphere (early dinner reservation Saturday at 4pm). Would definitely recommend and would go back anytime.

Great California style place on the water. Outstanding quality of ingredients and very reasonably priced. Ever tried a Burrata Pizza? Go to this place and be delighted.

A nice restaurant with a pretty outdoor seating area. The food was really good, but there seemed to be only 1 waiter in the place who was working really hard, running from table to table. I'd give it a try again. Loved the atmosphere of the quiet outdoor seating area.

Unfortunately we stumbled on this place while looking for something lite to eat in North Beach. We ordered 5 salads, a bowl of soup and a chicken sandwich. The waiter told us we would have our food in about 20 min. 45 min later I flagged down what appeared to be a manager and told him that our waiter disappeared... More

I don't go there as often as I woud like to due to lack of $$, but if I could I would have the same dish over and over. I love Pesto! and their pesto sauce to me has always been fresh!!!!. I have recommended Bocce Cafe to various non-SF people as a good place to start an evening. My... More

My boyfriend and I wanted the north beach experience. When we arrived at 7 pm there was no one else in the restaurant. We ordered a glass of wine and an appetizer (both were average). We were planning on having dinner here but ended up just paying for the appetizer and drinks and went to Trattoria Contadina for dinner (which... More

A group of college girlfriends visits this place each time we make it to San Fran. We were atrracted to to the cozy ambiance, great food, live entertainment, decent wine prices. Out last visit was---our LAST VISIT. Food was okay. We asked for fresh parm and they pointed to the little pizzeria shaker on the table. It was Friday night... More

We looked in the Fisherman's Wharf/Noe Valley area for a restaurant to accommodate a group of about 25 for a family wedding rehearsal dinner. There aren't many places with a private dining area, but we got lucky when we found The Bocce Cafe. The restaurant is located off busy Grant Street up the way on quiet Green Street. It is... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
