Alfreds it the real classic US steak house, and one of the best of its kind. Service is always very good and the steaks are second to none. The wine list is some what short, but always has very interesting uncommon selectios at resonable prices....More

Alfred's had a fine steak-- but the place just feels tired. It's been there forever-- and it feels like it. I also felt like I had been there forever by the time the food came. It's a 3 hour meal.

Alfreds is a classic steakhouse tucked in at Merchant St. The decor is 1950 french fine dining budoir burgundy, which is a little, to say the least, off in respect to, that these guys prepare a mean steak. We ordered the oyster plate to share,...More

The restaurant décor was very traditional with a Chicago or NY style steakhouse feel. Server was efficient and explained in details of their plates and portions that comes with. Server was very polite and good service was provided through-out our dining experience. We ordered 3...More

A discussion of Alfred's should begin and end with the steaks. My sometimes vegetarian wife finished her fillet--that tells you everything, it was just too good not to finish. The strip steak was equally wonderful, as was a double thick lamb chop which was only...More

As we pulled up in front of Alfred’s Steakhouse, my Uber driver said, “Why are some of the best places always down a dark alley?” I replied that I didn’t have an answer. Yes, Alfred’s entrance is off of an alley. The place has been...More

Alfred's is the go-to place when you are looking for a classic steak dinner done perfectly with tradition soaked in. Their aged beef is tender and delicious and their sides are what you expect. Creamed spinach, mashed potatoes (with marscapone, yum), or French fries, roasted...More

Our food was very expensive but delicious. Our waiter saw to it that we had a wonderful dinner and he was great.

Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but
can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s
version of Wall Street. The rush of business people
make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of
life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the
narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of
historic and contemporary architecture, including the
iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours,

Alfred's: an oasis of steak, Scotch, and swank. Shaking up martinis and grilling dry-aged beef over mesquite since 1928, with unassumingly traditional service from a veteran staff.
