We went to this restaurant as we wandered around Little Italy. The place itself is very nicely decorated and had a bit of atmosphere when a few people got in, but service varied between excellent and uninterested. The food was inconsistent too, my Veal Parmiagano was excellent, but my wife was less impressed by the Salmon Ravioli. My daughters had... More

What a shame. Beautiful restaurant and lovely food. Lots of veggie choice. But the service was awful. We were left waiting for ages after being seated. It took about 20 mins before a waiter came over to take our order. It took another 20 mins for soup and garlic bread to arrive. Then another 15 mins until our mains of... More

Tourist trap but good location, as they all have it. Nice staff but food was miserable and wine was crapy and overpriced. Hostess dipped her fingers in olive oil on table and was working it in her fingers as she stood at the door!

We accidentally chosen this restaurant since we found that it provides gluten free options. It offers very authentic Italian cuisine (considering it being almost on the other side of the world), Eros Ramazotti as the background music while we were there.

While browsing the menu we were met by the hostess who said " you look hungry". She saw into the future. The caesar salad was fantastic as was the cantaloupe & prosciutto. We also had the orrichette & broccoli which was terrific. The only complaint was that the bread was not of the same calibre of the food. All told... More

There are so many restaurants to choose from in the Italian section of San Fran. We chose Colosseo because it was getting late and we felt pressure to find a place to sit down and eat. The service was beyond poor. We were seated (there were just a few scattered tables occupied at the time) and given menus. It was... More

We visited this restaurant as a family of 3 about 6pm in the evening so it was relatively quiet. The service was very good and the food was nice, if not spectacular. However, the chocolate desert my 11yo son had was "the best desert ever" in his words .... so that was spectacular and the coffee was nice (coming from... More

We were looking for a good Italian restaurant after a day in Sonoma when a bank teller told us about her family's place a few doors down. We were delighted that it was exactly what we hoped for. We shared the panzerotti appetizer, which came with a most delicious pesto cream for dipping. For entrees, I highly recommend the Risotto... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
