My husband and I have eaten at Barbacco's big sister, Perbacco, a number of times and always found the food to be excellent. Last week, during a trip to SF between the holidays, we decided to try Barbacco, since we were in the mood for something a bit more casual. We sat at the bar, which we always enjoy for... More

We took an early afternoon break after a day of walking nearby neighborhoods. The cool Racer 5 IPA's paired nicely with a section of marinated olives and a tasty selection of bruschetta including Roasted Pepper, Marinated Brussels Sprouts, and Tuscan Chicken Liver. Convenient downtown location with friendly service and modern decor. Definitely disappointed we couldn't stay for dinner, a glass... More

This was my first time to Barbacco, located next door to Parbacco and the San Francisco institution- Tadich Grill. We arrived for an early dinner at 5:30 PM, but the tables were already filling. Reservations are recommended. This is an Italian restaurant, the choices include several varieties of pasta dishes and other entrees of meat and fish. The wine list... More

Excellent and friendly service. Food is very good and prices reasonable for this area. Good wine list too.

I have been to Barbacco three times now. The first time I dined at the bar. The second time with a group of 20 in the private room upstairs. The last time was this Friday, two of us at a table. Each time I've had a really fine experience with Barbacco. The first thing I notice each time I've been... More

Had dinner here with some business associates. Great place, friendly, fast service and good food. Prices are quite reasonable too. Everyone had the steak but I took the special of the day, swordfish on lentil, which was surprisingly tasty. We also sampled a variety of side-dishes (squid, sprouts, etc.). I do recommend this place for business casual dinner.

Both of us had the same dish, and we both LOVED it. The wine was good too. We did not have appetizers or dessert, so there is nothing more to say.

Good mix of excellent food, attentive but not overbearing service, relaxed atmosphere and reasonably-priced offerings. Far betterr than some ofthe other "name" Italian places in SF.

Completely different atmosphere from Perbacco, the fine dining restaurant next door, which is also very good. Sit at the bar at Barbacco, and you will get perfect service, at least we did (dinner on a weeknight). Much more casual than Perbacco, with food more like modern Americanized Italian tapas. Americanized because, for example, everyone's favorite tapa there is the deep... More

We had dinner last weekend at Barbacco for a festive occasion. I've had lunch there several times and my group of 5 chose it based largely on my recommendations. The food was good, but the service was surprisingly poor. They completely forgot to bring us our appetizers - which we cancelled once the entrees were delivered to the table. They... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighbourhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
