Two of us went on a Sunday. The space is small so we waited for about 10 minutes. I had heard of this eatery through Instagram. Indeed, the menu (with a children's book cover) featured a hamburger in a bun made of donuts! We weren't hungry enough so we ordered waffles with fried chicken and salad. The food was delicious.

My sister found this place online and wanted to check it out. My first impression is that it is tiny! I can see why you need a reservation, there are only a few tables inside. If you want to go, you should make reservations. We ordered drinks and food. I had the chicken and waffles. It was good, but very... More

Straw Carnival Fare is the cafe's complete name, and its game it presenting American comfort food in clever collages. My guest ordered the Rib Sundae, pork ribs and mashed potatoes designed as an large ice cream sundae (see below). The ribs were indeed tender and tasty, and the chocolate bar-be-que sauce (slightly piquant) gave the impression of the fudge topping... More

Make reservations! Really cool, quaint and unique place and the service was excellent. I wanted everything on the menu and as surrounding tables' food arrived, it ALL looked just as delicious as it sounded on the menu. The menus are made from old children's books which I thought was neat. The whole place is just so cool and different.

On our last night in San Francisco we discovered this place just down the street from our B&B - we reserved a table for two and that seemed a good idea as it got busier and busier as we were there; the place is pretty small too. Between the two of us we had the famed donut burger and chicken... More

Some friends and I ate brunch here this past Sunday. I had the chicken waffles. Unbelievable. There is a lot going on but when you taste that Raspberry jam. Yummy yummy.

Don't go there if you want the healthy option... All of their options are crazy sweet salty huge meals that could feed you for 2 days (in a good way!). Good experience, new things to try, I wouldn't go back every week, just not to get diabetes, but going there once in a while with friends is a blast! Plus... More

We tried both of the 'as seen on tv' menu options, the fried chicken and waffle monte cristo and the "ringmaster" donut burger. There were 2 of us and we had half each and we both loved them! I preferred the monte cristo and my partner loved the burger. The service was great too.

The grilled cheese and tomato soup was great! Everyone in our group was pleased with the great food. The clown wallpaper was a little creepy but who cares when you are eating great food. The service was extrodinary. We will definitely visit again!

What's with the name? Hmmm, But the decor and menu reflect a "County Fair" sort of theme - and that makes it fun, unique and well worth a visit. It is quite small and non-descript from the outside, but inside, there's a 2-person table within a "Tilt-A-Whirl" carnival ride shell, and lots of carnival themed elements. Our menu came tucked... Staying in Hayes Valley

Neighbourhood Profile
Hayes Valley
Chock full of designer boutiques, art galleries, funky shoe stores, and great restaurants, it’s hard to imagine Hayes Valley once languished in the shadow of a major freeway.
