The noodles hold no attraction for me but I loved the chicken barbecue, cascaron (fried mochi balls), and of course, the lilikoi pie, which is incredible. The place itself is a mess, which is why it didn't get all the stars, but the food is really, really good.

I have reviewed Hamura Saimin previously; my wife and I have been going there for nearly 30 years. I almost always get an extra large special. Noodles, ham, pork slices, a few wontons, cabbage, fish cake, half an egg, and broth. The noodles are cooked soft. If you are looking for firm noodles, you are unlikely to get them here.... More

Saimin is an island soup that is a local favorite and tourist who are fortunate enough to find Hamura Saimin. The best way to describe Saimin is Top Ramen on steroids. We enjoy Speciality Saimin, with beef or chicken BBQ on the side and to top off your meal delicious Lilkoi Chiffon Pie is made from a local fruit and... More

You have got to eat here! Simple but delicious . We had the regular saimin, size large, we should have got the extra large, we will eat here again before we go home. Prices are very reasonable.

Daughter wanted to try Hamura Samin. Place is a whole in the wall, communal seating, not much space, just look for a open seat and wait till the waitress sees you. Only one waitress and she works so hard. Elderly Filipino lady clears the counter and the other cooks the saimin. Got the specialty saimin with side order of teriyaki... More

Sitting on little stools around U-shaped counters brings customers together for family-style dining. The Saimin is the best--tasty, flavorful and fresh. Bowls are full and there's a lot to finish--but it's oh so good! The special Saimin can't be beat. Service is fast but it's cash only so be prepared.

This was our first stop after landing into Lihue Airport and was a wonderful, warm stop after our travels. The diner style seating arrangement is cozy and allows you to get along with other tourists and locals alike. We loved the one-woman show service who remembered all of our orders and brought them to us speedily. All who come must... More

We stop here for lunch since everyone was raving about it. The place is small, so you just go in and sit down wherever you find a spot. We ordered the ramen noodles, and were disappointed. The noodles were overcooked, nothing special. The wontons didn't taste fresh at all. We also ordered the passionfruit pie, but that was OK.

If you're in Kauai, you've got to try Hamura Saimin. It's in a workingman's area of central Lihue and is patronized by locals and lucky visitors who know about it. It's casual and authentic. Counter seating and amazing Saimin which is a local noodle soup dish. Try the Lillikoi pie too. Yummy!
