Location is awesome. We literally sat on a padded chair on the sand. We watched sea turtles literally 40 feet from us. On to the service. It was mostly poor; inline with the other reviews I saw. 11 minutes before a waitress said hello ( I timed it) 3 more minutes before we received water, etc. Not to belabor the... More

We got side tracked and ended up at the restaurant. Lovely setting on the beach, but at night you can't see it. Food was good but once the waiter got a giant party he forgot about us. My 10 year old had a quesadilla off the kids menu. I had a salad, ho hum, and the pork rib starter. It... More

We had dinner at Lava Lava last night and I have to say this is a must stop if you are in the area. The atmosphere is really fun, and the sunset on the beach is spectacular. My husband got the ribs and say they were some of the best he ever had and we both enjoyed our drinks. Our... More

If you want a great view of the sunset on the Big Island, make this one of your stops. It is very popular, so make reservations or plan to just buy a drink and stand as the big ball drops below the horizon.

WE had lunch here after a helicopter ride. It was excellent. i had a salad with their marinated shrimp and it was large and excellent. I had their Mai Tai, too, i thought it too sweet. my husband had the pork ribs and they were very good, but a HUGE portion. he took them back to our condo and ate... More

Tough day for reservations at this justifiably popular spot. Despite previous disappointment with kitchen consistency, this lunch really hit the spot. The Kalua Pig with coconut coleslaw was superb, and the cluckin' chicken sandwich satisfied my wife. Waiter steered us to good local beers and the atmosphere was great. Reservations essential for popular times and busy time may equal slower... More

My family of 4 had lunch here after a morning at the beach. Lava lava is literally on the beach. While waiting for food, we watched 3 sea turtles which were feeding by shore. Recs - Maui onion rings, kalua pork sandwich, fish (Mongchong was F.O.D.). Pineapple fried rice was good for kids menu. It gets busy so have a... More

The coconut mai tai was great. Sizzling shrimp were excellent. The teriyaki flank steak was delicious. The view is unbeatable. Nice casual atmosphere. I would highly recommend this spot.

We had been hiking along the beach trail and had lunch here. We were two couples and the ladies turned back first so had a head start on us. A great beach location and lots of choices on their menu. All of us enjoyed our choices. A great place to have a drink by the water.
