This restaurant's location, views, and beachy fun atmosphere is great. It is largely a tourist restaurant. They don't take reservations so getting in is difficult during meal times. We went for an early dinner and got in quickly. The food was not great and our...waitress was uninterested and not very attentive. Prices were very high for the food and service that we got, so just know that you are paying for the beachy location. They also don't want you to linger after your meal and have a time limit for tables, so forget hanging around after your dinner to enjoy the sunset. We heard a lot of hype about this restaurant before our trip, but we were disappointed and didn't return.More

This restaurant doesn’t take reservations. We arrived just after they opened so our family party of 6 got right in. Oh my, an excellent view. All tables are outside facing the ocean. We had tacos with fruit salsa and guacamole to start in. Several of...us had the yummy salads, several had fish tacos and one had chicken fried rice. Oh my, you must order the coconut cake. Fabulous! Our server Sarah was excellent. This is a must dine at restaurant!!!More

Great for lunch and a drink. Servers are attentive and polite. Food was like pub food. Drinks and beer on tap was great.

A++++ and go in the evening when the sun settles. A+++ sunset views. Get there early to make a reservation. Very very cool performers (duo) singing. Amazing atmosphere. Our server was okay- super rushed us and obviously he was just looking to turn tables. All...good. We didn’t take offense. Food was average but I 1000000% recommended going to this place . A must. Cool waiting area off to the side w corn hole table tennis a van that sells drinks while you wait etcMore

If you are looking for tropical drinks and surfside fare, this is the place. Their frozen Blue Hawaii was delicious, and the appetizer sampler was excellent. However, the prices here match the view. We had a lovely waitress, but the hostess had some attitude, and...my friend's previous service experience was mixed.More

Went for a post beach lunch. Table & waitress were spectacular. Kitchen rushed the order and apps and lunch came out too close together. Host almost ruined the day with too much attitude ( to the point if you don't like your job, don't work...there!) Thjs place definitely is volume based and will rush to turn tables. But if you know what you are getting into, it can be fun.More

Sunset dinner at Lava Lava and Manta Snorkeling are tied for my BEST moments while in Kona. The vibe is amazing, I loved the grass area for games while you're waiting for the table (but drinks in the VW bus were more expensive than expected!)....The wait went quickly, and we were treated to the BEST seat on the sand - and we didn't even mention it was our honeymoon! Great luck! The sunset was gorgeous, our waiter was amazing and the food was DELICIOUS. I literally can't wait to go back.More

It might have been almost a 2 hr wait for seating...but it was so worth the visit. Great ambiance, live music, and delicious food! Would gladly wait to partake in this restaurant in the future.

The setting is spectacular! Not to be missed. Sit right on the beach while eating good food, tasting tropical drinks, and listening to the best Hawaiian musicians. This very casual place also offers everyone a chance to dine there without planning and booking weeks in...advance with their "No Reservation- First Come First Served" policy. Show up a bit early and get in line to give your name for a table. While waiting you can play games on the adjacent lawn and order drinks from the little drink caravan, which makes the wait go by very quickly. The food is good enough and the service is wonderful. There is nowhere else like it. A Must Go.More

You know that those are great questions. Children would love Lava Lava. Their staff will try to give the table requested but you may have to be patient. Have an extra drink. And have fun!
