Everything we ate here was fantastic. Their Kona Kampachi (fish) was the best kampachi we ate on the big island and Maui. My husband’s beef tenderloin was melt in your mouth good and had a great seasoning. Our friend also raved about the Wok Charred...Ahi. And their Lilikoi (passion fruit) Mousse was heavenly.More

Nice setting. Open room, demonstration kitchen, big windows. Tables spaced appropriately during the COVID restrictions. Split a Caesar salad, $15, and tasty prawn appetizer, $21, Pacific white shrimp, sauteed, $21, served with Honopua organic spinach, local cabbage slaw. Enjoyed the 8oz Beef Tenderloin, $63, fine...cut of meat. It came out too raw but was quickly replaced. Served with jalapeño whipped potatoes, Waimea vegetables, herb butter. Fine, friendly service, including the bussing, with detailed explanations on the preparations of each dish we asked about. Wine by the glass. $13 to $27. Corkage, $35. Excellent wine list. Domestic and imports. Solid range in the $50 to $90 range. For example, the Domaine Barat, "Vaillons" Chablis, Premier Cru, France 2018, $69; Frank Family Vineyards, Chardonnay, Carneros, $59; and the Greywacke, Pinot Noir, Marlborough, New Zealand, 2014, $79.More

If you are not staying in Kamuela and do not have a car rented, you can consider renting one just to come here. This is a proper fine dining spot. Creative and classic cocktails, local farm to table dishes will not leave you wanting if...your wallet permitsMore

Excellent food, fresh. High end but kids definitely ok and welcome. Comfortable relaxed atmosphere. We ended up eating there 3 times in our 1 week trip (2 dinners and 1 lunch). Staff is so nice, welcoming, and friendly!

The best food on the island, by far. The amazing flavors, interesting preparation and innovation make this the best food on the island. Try the fish ceviche for an appetizer. The flavors are divine. Follow it with the fish with the miso sauce. Unbelievably delicious....Oh, and the chocolate purse for dessert is a must do for flavors, as well. Forget about the prices, and go enjoy a meal here!More

This was our 3rd time here, and we enjoy each time we are on this island. The meat was prepared just as we ordered. The wine list is quite extensive. We picked the Ken Wright Pinot Noir, which was priced fairly and paired well with...the meat. Make sure to book dinner reservations in advance. We reserved the 5 pm time as it is not quite as busy as it is later. It was fine dining island style, where you can wear your nice evening resort clothing.More

Overall, the dining experience, the staff, the environment was very nice. The food was almost perfect, but when you're entre comes out minutes after you order and the dining room is full, it makes me wonder how much was cooked ahead. The lamb with pasta...was very tasty, but the pasta was a little al dente. You shouldn't have to apply force to cut pasta with a fork. My wife almost needed to use her knife. Pasta you need to chew well is perhaps not acceptable at this price level. Unfortunately, sending it back just ruins the event, so she ate it anyway.More

We are so happy to see this place busy, in spite of covid. We felt safe, with more than adequate spacing, cross ventilation, and careful staff. Food superb, as always. We have only been out to eat 5 times since the start of the pandemic......This place has been 2 of them. Favorite restaurant ever.More

There’s really no description other than the title. We loved the Maui location and wanted to try the original. Food, people and location were all terrific. A highlight of our trip for sure.

We had eaten at Merriman's on Maui in the past, and it was very good, so we knew we needed to try the original on the Big Island of Hawaii. It was amazing! A much different experience as it was inland and a smaller establishment....We came in January of 2021 just as the island was opening back up to travelers post covid. They handled the covid protocol like champs. No surprise! We can't wait to go back! I had the seared ahi and it was delectable.More

No. Maybe lunch is better suited to families with small children. We took our older children who all enjoyed it very much, but they are adults. Evening is definitely adult time at this wonderful restaurant.
