Great stop for Island style ono foods + hot malasada!!!Best malasadas on Hawaii Island!I especially love their beef curry stew.It came with beef, potatoes,and carrots in a light curry broth.

Very unfriendly

We found this place on tripadvisor and decided to stop by for breakfast on our way to pololu valley day trip. The lady at the counter was so unfriendly in a rush and no smile at all, She couldnt understand our order for 2 minutes...which was annoying. We have vegeterians in the house and we asked her to not put meat in the breakfast burrito and she had an attitude like WHAAAT?? She gave me a tortilla filled with just eggs as my breakfast burrito without the meat and it was horrible in taste. Second thing to know is when you ask for hash brown its not a cutlet rather a pile of potato peels as hash brown, so that was a bummer too. The only thing we liked here was the fresh POG juice. There are public restrooms located in the building. This place also has good MASALADAS(local doughnuts). Our fav was was bavarian cream. The are couple of tables to sit and eat on outside. They give food in take away boxes so I asked the lady for a plate for my daughter as they both couldnt eat from the same container and she charged me 55 cents for it with an attitude which was really sad to see. I would still have paid for it becuase I needed it for my daughter but i wish she would have been kind and friendly.More

We get it. It’s pandemic.

We get it. It’s pandemic. But we local people refuse to be treated by this lady server with fancy nails and make up. Twice it happened where there’s no aloha at all. Two hours before you close, and you say no more malasadas grudgingly. We...the only customers waiting for her, and she pointed out we were in the wrong line. For reals! The downfall of this business is attitude. We’re not coming back. I hope they build other places to sell malasadas on this island.More

Malasadas!

Knowing that Tex Drive In & Restaurant was on the immediate path between our Waikoloa resort and our destination of Akaka Falls State Park, there was no way we were going to pass this up. The giant, fluffy malasadas were the perfect mid-morning treat. We...each had so much fun picking out a favorite flavor to try. We would have liked to have stopped for lunch on our return trip, but we were all still too full from the malasadas. Oh well - next time!More

Mouth Watering Treats!

We stopped at the Tex Drive In. You can also dine inside or outside or use the drive up window. If you go inside you can see the employees rolling out the dough and preparing the Malasadas! They have this process perfected to a science....You can purchase your favorite from a long list; however, the plain Malasasa is the greatest. Hot donuts. They are better than what your mother could make!!! I must admit the hot Malasada covered in chocolate was my favorite. The restaurant has great burgers, soups, etc. Please don't miss this great dining opportunity in Honokaa, Hawaii.More

Sandwich and malasada

Our tour stopped here for dinner. We had a cheeseburger and Mahi sandwich on square bread like the malasada. Tasty sandwiches. Our malasada was plain and sugar coated with the inside dyed green for St Patrick’s Day.

Go for the Malasadas, also go for the breakfasts

Went out of our way from Kona to Hilo to stop here based on recommendation from a coworker. Malasadas did not disappoint. Wife ordered some breakfast and there was so much food she couldn't finish it all. This place is in the middle of nowhere...but definitely a hidden gem. Would definitely try other things on the menu if nearby for lunch or dinner.More

Love their Malasadas

We stopped in to purchase malasadas based on friends recommendation. We purchased 2 Bavarian Creme and one each of mango, chocolate, strawberry, coconut. They were all great tasting. We also discovered heating them up in a microwave for about 25 seconds makes them soft again...like when we ate one fresh at the drive-in.More

Kulua pork off the chain

My wife and her friend say the Kalua pork and cabbage wrap is to die for. Stay away from the shrimp boat. Almost $11 for 4 shrimp and french fries. Definitely wasted my money on the shrimp boat and they don't carry cocktail sauce. The...Malasadas were very good. Good enough to go back the following day for more;however, the next day was Monday and they were out of Maladas. The restaurant was fairly dingy and the service was extremely slow.More

What a nice place.

We enjoyed lunch here as well as their very well known Malasadas. You can watch them make them by hand. And they are sooooo good. Try the filled ones.

Nice rest stop - "OK" food

My wife and I were driving around the big island and as we hit the Northern area got a bit hungry. There are not a lot of eateries on the main road in the North, so we pulled in when we saw "Tex Drive In"....We didn't realize it was famous for its malasadas so we passed on them (having had some earlier in the day from a bakery)... we did enjoy watching them being made fresh though. We ordered some lunch plates and ate outside. The food was OK... I had teriyaki beef and shrimp and the wife had Korean chicken, both with rice and salad. Everything was sort of bland and we waited a long time for the food. They have restrooms here but they are as clean as other places around. Still, for a lunch stop, it wasn't bad.More
