We stopped for the malasadas! This was my first taste so I have nothing to compare to. They are also called Portuguese doughnuts or fried dough. Very good dough but the fillings were not so great. Avoid apple filling. Strawberry is the best. If you go to Waipio valley it's on the way but I would not come all the... More

This was my first time trying the malasadas. They were much denser than I expected. Great yeast doughnut flavour, but I was hoping for a lighter texture. Probably won't order another one, but that's just my personal preference...I know many people love them.

I read so many reviews of this place and put it on our map for our circumnavigation of Hawaii with our two young boys. I found it really disappointing. Expensive (especially considering it is counter service only), greasy, uninspired. Husband had the pork and cabbage wrap which was the best of the options we chose. Nice location on a beautiful... Malasadas and more. Tex Drive In is famous for their hot Malasadas. Tour groups and buses stop therefor these legendary delights, but the Tex Drive In has more than just Malasadas, they have great local food such as Portuguese Bean soup, Loco Moco and other local offering along with the other delicous drive in favorites that can be found elsewhere... In the '70s we always stopped at Tex's on our way to Hapuna., I wonder if they were filling them then, and I never noticed as they were so ono plain just out of the hot oil. This is of course when they were on the other corner, so a pretty long time ago. They're still pretty tasty.

Tex is famous for their malasadas. I especially love the Bavarian cream. Their burgers are also good

We had tried Malasadas (Portuguese filled doughnuts popular in Hawai'i) at a bakery, but I had read about this place in Honoka'a and so we stopped on our way from our Wapio Valley visit. I was intrigued at how they create the Malasadas. They take these pillows of soft - still warm - doughnut heaven, and pump in the filling... More

We had been told to be sure to go the miles for Tex Malasadas, so our expectations were high. I have to say that the ones we had at Leonard's in Waikiki were better tasting, but they are a lot bigger at Tex. It is unique to see them square shape rather than round. They are more like a dense... More

I was looking forward to having my new daughter in law try a malasada for the first time ~ we bought a box of mixed flavors to bring home. They were sadly lacking in filings ~ maybe a teaspoon in each ~ they used to be FULL of yummy fillings ~ I don't think I need to have any more... More

Excellent place to stop when driving around the north/northeast side of the island. :) The taco Salad bowls looked amazing! Watch the best Malasades being made - huge and tasty! Worth a stop!!!
