We were told that we had to visit this place if we went to big island. It was a very pleasant visit, the freshly made fried donuts were amazing! The menu had a great selection at decent prices, a great place to feed a family!!

As advertised, it's a very delicious location. All menu items are nice. We ate under the roof because the rain is unpredictable. The stop took around 15-20 minutes including a quick walk through the tourist shop.

Every time we go to the Big Island, we make a point to stop at Tex in Honoka'a—a family tradition. In September 2019, we also visited O'ahu and decided to try the malasadas at Leonard's Bakery (on Kapahulu) and compare. They were definitely good, but...were also excessively sugary and a bit greasy for my tastes. By contrast, Tex's malasadas are consistently fresh, not excessively sugared, and their fillings are so 'ono. It is right off the highway, and it is definitely worth the stop!More

Everyone seem to know about the fresh donuts ( malasadas), but we were happy to find a complete menu, too. The beef curry plate lunch and the Portuguese soup were both great!

We were on our way to the Waipio Lookout and I told my family we were definitely stopping at Tex’s for their Malasadas. It was mentioned so many times while researching travel on the Big Island. It was very easy to locate with a large...parking lot and easy entry. I didn’t realize they offered such a big menu and would have liked to try some of their food. We were there for the Malasadas and they did not disappoint! They were twice as big as the ones at our hotel and you could get filled ones if you like! They melted in your mouth. There is a viewing area to watch them being made. There is a small gift shop and plenty of seating inside and out for eating. Left with a half dozen hot Malasadas for the road. Yum.More

Save your gas and let me be the guinea pig on this one. I drove completely around this Island in search of the best Malasadas. I found lots of imitators, some that cook them early in the morning and plastic wrap them for the early...lunch rush. (Southside) There is a clearcut winner. You simply drive north to Honokaa to Tex Drive In and Restaurant. They are huge and made right in front of you, fresh. Very reasonably priced just a little over $2 a piece. Only order 2 for each person if you have a decent appetite. They also have lots of other delicious food. Go north, Bra!More

The veggie omelet and breakfast burrito were really good. So much food! The malasadas (Portuguese fried donuts) were incredible. We got guava, bavarian creme, and chocolate filling. The one with bavarian creme was by far the best. The back patio is lovely and peaceful. We...went at 8:15 am on a Thursday and it was not too crowded yet. Highly recommend! Great place to stop on the drive from Waikoloa to Umauma.More

Tex drive in was recommended to us for their Malasadas. OMG, the Malasadas were the best. We tried some Malasadas at another location. No comparison. A must eat.

My brother recommended this place because of the malasadas. They did not disappoint. They were some of the best I’ve ever had. Must stop in and pick up some when in area and their always hot.
