My husband and I visited this location for lunch and had a great experience. We each had a sandwich, I had a tornado turkey and he had the big ass bbq, both were delicious. The portions are also very generous. We finished the meal by...splitting a cookie monster acai bowl which also did not disappoint. This is a great little spot, would definitely come back here! Also- staff were great. There was an afternoon rush when we ordered and they worked like a well-oiled machine. They were kind and pleasant and overall wonderful. Thanks for a great meal!More

So this was the place I wanted to go for my birthday. The only place. After looking at all the pictures I was very excited. We did have to wait a bit which was fine, but it seemed like a lot of the menu was...not available. There were a lot of items blacked out or covered up. I ordered a unicone and was very excited to get glitter all over my ice cream but didn't want a cone so got it in a cup. It was disappointingly small and with no glitter but there were 50 people behind me. My son got a cone but it had a hole in it so most of it ended up on his pants. My husband got a fruity pebble sandwich thing with ice cream and that was very fun. The ice cream was good but not only-birthday-present worthy.More

So I was SALIVATING and dreaming about this place, weeks before even coming here. The hype of the pics on Instagram and Yelp fueled my "Absolutely Must To Do" list while in Hilo, and I was not going to miss this place because this was...about 20.5% of the reason I came to Hilo; to eat at this magical place! Me and my son touched down in Hilo and went sight seeing. We took an early flight and had time to kill while we waited for this place to open. The website said open at 11:30 AM but that was too late to wait around, so I decided to call them instead. I am one of those people who do not trust website hours. Them: "Makani's Pineapple Shack" Me: "What time do you open?" Them: "Ten thirty" Me: "Thank you!" Them: click. I rarely get hung up on the phone without at least a "goodbye" so I was worried this was a foreshadowing of things to come but the ice cream cones were OK at about $13.00 for two waffle cones (the Cookie Monster, which my son said tasted like Play-Doh; and the Unicone, which tasted like more tart than I would have imagined). They didn't have the Mermaid, which was apparently seasonal, and not in the summertime, go figure. This is a trendy establishment that asks, electronically, if you want to add a tip, but with $13.00 for ice cream and getting hung up on, I thought a tip would have been out of the question. Parking was easy to find as it was lacking any tourist traffic due to COVID-19 so we got street parking directly across MMPS. Return Factor: YES, and hopefully next time, better vibes.More

Street parking, pretty decor, big portions. $12 for the biggest acai bowl I've ever had and enough to feed 2 comfortably, the Kirkland wildflower honey they drizzle over it is delicious, the granola they layer in it is filling, and my only complaint is I...wish they gave more fruit. Side note: they do not give samples of their soft serve (dragonfruit/ube) as it breaks down their soft serve machine faster). Would I go back? Yes, but only if I had a partner to go with, cannot finish the acai bowl alone.More

Worth the wait. Long wait due to a long line, but our order was prepared quickly. The smoothies and frappes were fresh, delicious, and nicely presented. The ube was delicious!

It was a warm muggy day in Hilo in early December. We’d visited the Farmers Market and did the loop of downtown. We were ready to sit down and have a little something cold. Saw this great little place and went in. Delighted in a...wall of numerous ice cream treats, seasonal and local flavours and various food items. The servers were warm and friendly. Answered our many questions and made recommendations. We settled for a cup / Santa Hat of raspberry soft whip/ whipping cream and a cup of chocolate macadamia nut ice cream! Perfect! Tasted amazing and exactly what we needed. Great town to visit while on the Big Island.More

We made sure to make a quick stop at this establishment when we were in Hilo. Cute little shack serving colorful and tasty desserts. Would love to come back here someday!
