You know it is good when people start lining up before they even open! We went two times and enjoyed everything.

We had a large family group traveling. Miyo’s was able to accommodate both that and our many dietary restrictions. The sashimi was SO GOOD, as was the tempura. Both were the best we’ve had on the island. Will save for future visits!

We visited Miyo's our first night in Hilo. We called for reservations about 4:30 for their opening time of 5:30. Very popular place, fills up quickly. Silverware is available upon request but the chopsticks were fun. My wife had the tempura, I the sesame chicken....Both meals were excellent. The tempura batter was very light, delicate. The Sesame chicken was whole breast, flattened (not unlike typical Chinese lemon chicken) cut into slices coated with sesame sauce. Meal starts with a soup, drunk directly from the bowl. Fun experience, excellent flavor, reasonable prices.More

Somewhat disappointed on this visit. Noticed that portions were less than usual. Teriyaki was not up to par. Very thinly sliced with too much fat. Chicken katsu, fewer pieces and not cut properly so to conveniently access sauce with chop sticks. Rice bowl about 3/4...full. Hope this is not a cost saving trend at the expense of quality. But the service was excellent as usual.More

There's a reason this place is always crowded -- it's great! Always hard to choose. I've only been here for lunch so it's usually a combo, and one with tempura. It's a bit bready, the temupura, but still very good. If you're looking to cut...carbs by avoiding the rice, you may be able to get extra veggies instead. Whatever you get, it's yummy!More

Went to Miyo's for local food while visiting family in HIlo. Wanting local food, we went there for dinner. We had fried butterfish(actually miso marinated blackcod/sablefish) which was very good and came with an excellent salad that filled 1/2 of the dinner plate. My wife...had saimin with tempura which she enjoyed.More

On our way to the airport with time to spare we made a side detour to Miyo’s Japanese restaurant, for lunch. This local Japanese restaurant is truly off the beaten path but well worth the effort to find, their emphasis is on the food not...the decorations. Lots of parking out front and very friendly staff. This really is a genuine local eating place, but you have to be patient and not in a rush. There is even a small Japanese tea room to the right of the Turtle wall art work in the entrance way. Miyo's has been serving Japanese dishes for over a decade and everything is made fresh no matter what you order. No California rolls served here, just fresh fish, meat, salads, tempura, soba and udon dishes. Lots of different choices for vegetarians. We ordered the daily special of a Ribeye steak, which came with salad and miso soup, and also a Tofu vegetable tempura dish with a nice dipping sauce and rice. For our adult beverage we ordered a local brewed ale called Aloha spirt blond. Dessert consisted of the daily special, and a very tasty green tea ice cream. Will defiantly come back here again when we visit Hilo. TIP: If you are in a rush you can call ahead for a Bento box to go.More
