We happened on this place and had a delightful lunch. Charming restaurant in the main shopping street. Wide menu selection. Highly recommend the Caesar salad with shrimp. And my husbands pizza was delicious.
I think we dined here on an “off day” for the food quality. We’ve dined here many times before and will try again. The burger was cooked to well done which was not how we wanted it. The calamari was okay but a bit bland....The mango mustard dipping sauce for it was not especially exciting. Service was pleasant. Tables are spaced and were thoroughly sprayed and wiped between guests.More
When we moved to Hawaii in 2018, we were saddened to hear the Pesto's in Kawaihae had just closed. We used to make the drive there every time we visited the island. We live on the Kona side and it took a couple of years...before we had reason to drive the two hours to Hilo, but while there, we were excited to try Pesto's. The restaurant is nice to look at and the service was quite good. Some of the menu was familiar, but some of the things we loved were gone (Calzones and Focaccia). Prices were up a bit and the portions were smaller, but the quality of the food was quite good. We were there at lunch. We shared a salad and a pizza. With tip it was just about $38.More
Was recommended this place by my boss who is from Hilo. Made reservations since with COVID they have limited seating. Finding street parking was easy.
I had the Seafood Risotto (gluten-free) . Now here’s the weird part, there was no seafood in it! It was...still so good!
My sister had the salmon pasta (enough for 2!) and the coconut calamari and both were so ono. Also the POGLemonade is good too.
Definitely with go there again the next time I am in HiloMore
Outstanding food, service and location. Easy parking outside of restaurant. We ordered the shrimp Shapiro, pizza and burger. All were terrific. Also recommend the special, coconut crusted calamari with mango mustard. During COVID, they had plenty of room between tables and cleaned constantly. A great...place to go!!!More
It was such a treat to find Cafe Pesto open! The pizza and the fish sandwich were both delicious. The service was smooth. Its the first time I ve been to a restaurant in 2.5 months and I could not have asked for a better...experience. It was pretty slow so it is a very good time to support our local businesses. The tables are well spaced and it feels very "safe".More
We went for a drive around the island and discovered this place in Hilo. Various restaurants and galleries nearby the old building is very cool to eat in. I had the Hilo Sunrise breakfast which was ordinary at best, but my wife had the chicken...and waffles! Holy cow was it good, she and I finished it together! It was awesome, very good size meals and the prices were pretty good considering it’s Hawai’i ! The chicken and waffles, unreal! Service was excellent!More
Most shops and restaurants are CLOSED on Sunday in old Downtown Hilo - Bay Area. We were glad to find Cafe Pesto open, greeted pleasantly and a
Varied menu for lunch. We opted for a pulled turkey on a bun, with a mango chutney. It...was tasty, as was the potatoe salad. The mixed greens salad came with a very delicious homemade creamy pesto dressing. Our waitress was perfect combo of efficient and friendly.
Find this lovely spot on the bay and enjoy lunch.More
Picked this cafe based on a sample menu at the place we were staying. Choices sounded interesting, and Cafe Pesto was in reasonably close proximity. Recommendation: MAKE A RESERVATION. This place was full on a Monday evening. We were lucky to get a seat at...the bar. Our server/bartender, Rachel, was friendly and efficient. Hors d'oeuvres were tasty and reasonably priced. Pizzas were delicious.More

I was there in September and the restaurant wasn’t full but some large groups and there was four of us and could easily hear each other. I personally really enjoyed all this restaurant had to offer. Maybe book and ask to be seated away from the middle of the dining room.
