The Ponds is located at one inlet on Hilo Bay. The ambience and view were relaxing - - like being on a pond. My wife and I aren't big eaters so we shared a New York steak and each had a salad. The service was good. The food was good. The prices were about what we expected for a higher... More

We were seated right away--the first time next to the window that overlooked the ponds. We enjoyed watching the ducks, the colorful carp and some young men diving and swimming. The first night was "Wack of Lamb Wednesday" and my friend and I ordered that special. The waiter, Reuben, was fantastic! He described the meal and made us salivate--his descriptions... More

We saw the reviews on TripAdvisor and decided to give this place a go when in Hilo. Nice location on the water. Our starter was delicious, but for my main, the fish was very undercooked. My partners lobster was overcooked. We also found it quite expensive.

Not many fine dining places here in Hilo (I live here) but this is my favorite place for special occasions whether for lunch or dinner. Great selection of foods. Always try to get Travis for our waiter. Try and get a table overlooking the water.

My family really enjoyed the visit to Ponds, all the fresh fish, etc. I just wish there were a few more vegetarian options. Great drinks and good people.

Ponds is right for some people, but not for us (from California). The salmon was cooked OK, but ad a very heavy basil sauce slathered all over it. Garlic mashed potatoes were very heavy. And for vegetables - one tiny broccoli floret. Surf and turf was also generally poor. Deep-fried shrimp had a very dense batter. The steak was flavorful,... More

Great food, awesome place to people watch even out in the parking lot. So much going on around the restaurant. They catered to my gluten free lifestyle, made sure nothing I ate had shoyu on it.

Fun setting - restaurant over a pond near Hilo. Kids had fun looking at the koi and turtles in the water - the food was very good, and the service was solid. Overall a very positive experience.

We came here on our honeymoon and found the beach nearby called Carlsmith to be fantastic and then stumbled across this gem of a restaurant. Great food, great service and great prices. Highly recommend.
