Small old restaurant with aviation decor. Can sit inside or out. Very friendly staff, but the food was the highlight. I had the Brisket with Wisconsin Cheese and sautéed mushrooms and onions. It was amazing !

Nice folks, excellent food, proper BBQ decor (paper napkins, lino floor). All the staff were super friendly and kind. Don't miss the corn fritters.

Puddle Jumpers BBQ Reopens Under New Chef/OwnerMILWAUKEE, Jan. 23 2013 -- South side restaurant Puddle Jumpers Smokehouse and BBQ reopened recently under new chef/owner Lisa "the Ale Wife" Keefer. Big changes are underway for the two-year-old restaurant, conveniently located on Howell Ave, near Mitchel International Airport. Since taking over the restaurant on Dec 11th, 2012, Keefer has refocused the restaurant on what it does best - smoked, slow-cooked Texas and Kansas City style BBQ. Patrons also now have a choice of six new, unique, from-scratch sauces to pair with their BBQ, sandwich or burger.Puddle Jumpers now also offers a variety of vegetarian and gluten-free options, including a smoked marinated portabella mushroom with bleu cheese and roasted red pepper, also available in burger form on a regular, pretzel or gluten-free bun, made locally and delivered daily.Fans of the previous Puddle Jumpers will be happy to know that several staples from the former menu are still available, including the honey-butter corn bread.Puddle Jumpers is located at 4939 S Howell Ave in Milwaukee, WI. About the Chef: Lisa Keefer has been exposed to different cuisines since she was 6 years old at the folk fair, where she volunteered until she was 25. She would always try all the food from every culture and try to reproduce it at home. Since her time at the folk fair, she has worked with well-known chefs throughout Milwaukee, including Chef Ron Edwards of the Safe House and Chef Thi Cao, formerly of the Milwaukee Art Museum and now executive chef at Buckley's Restaurant. Lisa also wrote a recipe piece for Alcoholmanac Magazine for two years as "The Ale Wife," cooking with and pairing food with beer and spirits.About the Sauces: Puddle Jumpers has crafted six new, house-made sauces - four BBQ and two hot sauces. Puddle Jumpers BBQ is a Midwest-style sweet and tangy sauce; Asian Cherry is mild and slightly sweet; Spicy Mustard is a South Carolina-style BBQ that goes especially well with anything on a pretzel bun; and the Beer-B-Que is a wee bit spicy and, obviously, made with beer.The two new hot sauces are their house Hot Sauce, made from Fresno chilies and orange juice, and the Smokin' Hot, made from habañeros and peaches.
