So happy to find this! Working in Norton on a service trip with high school students but had one afternoon with a little bit of free time. Based on the reviews, we decided to try this place. I was with one other person so we...got the Catfish dinner (2 pieces for $8) and a Pulled Pork sandwich dinner ($6.75) and shared them. The pork was fine but nothing special, but the Catfish was excellent! Lightly breaded, fried and very moist and juicy. Both dinners came with 2 sides which were Baked Beans and Coleslaw. The slaw was very ordinary and the beans were quite good. I liked the tartar sauce as well. There are a handful of tables outside but if the weather is not good you will want to take it to go.More

We have passed this place dozens of times, and never even realized they sell food. This is rustic and quaint. The only tables are outside. My husband and I both had the pulled pork meal which consists of a generous sandwich, barbecue sauce on the...side, cole slaw and baked beans. Everything was very good. The staff were all pleasant and appeared well groomed. The barbecue sauce was the 'goldilocks' of barbecue sauces: not too vinegary, not too sweet, not too spicy. Really quite good. The other side of the establishment has fresh vegetables for sale. Now, it is close to the highway, so if semi trucks zooming by is more than you can tolerate on any particular day this is probably not for you. We would definitely stop there again when travelling through and in the mood for barbecue.More

Here for a weekend working at a medical clinic and turned to TripAdvisor for some help finding a good/non chain local restaurant. The catfish bites were excellent and more than enough for one person! Good seasoning, cooked perfectly and not greasy. The sides of coleslaw...and potato salad were terrific as well.great service, funky rustic location on the side of the road! Only wish they were open Sunday for our road trip home.More

The pulled pork was great, not greasy, and the sauce on the side lets you decide how much or little you want. The catfish was great, and my friend got the chicken salad, and he thought it was really good, too. The pop is canned,...not fountain.More

After passing by this spot literally hundreds of times over the past few years, I finally stopped in during a solo trip to visit my father in Whitesburg. I instantly regretted every time I had taken carryout from any other place in or around Wise....Hefty portions, great taste, and friendly service!! One day I got the pulled pork BBQ sandwich platter, the next day I stopped for catfish. Both were in best of their kind, right down to the sides, I have ever eaten in VA, KY, WV or NC. The BBQ maker needs to be on one of those road shows.More

This is just a little produce stand with a kitchen attached, but they make an excellent pulled pork sandwich, and their fried catfish sandwich has a larger piece of fish than we found anywhere on Tybee Island during a recent visit. Two of their dinner...specials (sandwich, baked beans, slaw and a pickle wedge) cost less than a single meal at Tybee. Meals near Savannah cost an average of about $17 each. The two meals here were under $15, total. Nothing fancy, just great food. Whenever possible, we try to plan our travel in this area so we pass by here at mealtime. The only downside is that the tables are all outside. That doesn't bother us since we order to go, but weather will definitely affect your dining.More

The Apple House offers delicious barbecue and sides. It also offers fish, which I have heard, is delicious. The barbecue comes with yummy baked beans and coleslaw at a great price. I highly recommend the Apple House if you haven't tried it.

Everyone I know who has tried catfish from the Apple House raves about how good it is; so, I gave it a try and they are certainly right. The fried catfish bites I tried were excellent ... delicious taste, corn meal coating that was seasoned...just right, fried to perfection. They served a large portion of individual catfish nuggets with tartar sauce that complemented the fish very well. The sides were also very good. This is a place with limited "outdoors-only" seating and a window where you place your order; so, there were lots of carry-out orders being sold. If you are heading north or south on US-23 just past Wise, VA, make sure and give it a try.More
