Our waitress was totally in her British character. My father, being who he is, complained about the prices. Always does. So I asked her to slip the check to me under the table and I would pay her that way as well. She was so...More

It served its purpose and fed us a meal. Nothing over the top. Service was barely average. My portion seemed small and the menu was not helpful in making my choice.

We ate here twice, as they were able to accommodate my gluten allergy. Both visits were very good. It was a bit warm upstairs, so I would recommend asking for a table on the main floor.

During a week long vacation in Williamsburg my wife and I went to lunch at Chowning's Tavern after looking over the menu. I was excited by the beef trencher listed on the menu with visions of a 1700's style trencher dish. It turned out that...More

I have wanted to visit Chownings for years... maybe that is why I was disappointed. The three soups - including the Brunswick stew - were good. The brisket trencher was a pita sandwich. The brisket was very good, but that was lost in a sandwich....More

Usually places like this have a hard time to provide good food with reasonable service. This place was definitely better than expected.

18th Century dining experience. Had a late lunch, Very good food and very good service. A bit pricey, but all the taverns are.

Food was wonderful. We were seated quickly on a busy day. Food was tasty, fresh. Hubby got a flight of 3 beers. Staff was friendly. Lunch included live musician. Highlight of Colonial Williamsburg for us!

We are visiting Colonial Williamsburg for vacation. Read the reviews to see where to have a late lunch today. Food was ok but not great. Brunswick stew tasted like canned vegetable soup. Patsy's had a great crust but filling was tasteless. Cold hard cider was...More

There were no games the day we were there with our British friends but it might have been the timing as we had a late lunch. We were used to the old days of Gambols but I think that is only on special nights, weekends. The... More

Description
Gather ‘round at Chowning’s Tavern for hearty, Colonial-inspired pub fare, all served up in an authentic alehouse atmosphere. Try favorites of our founding fathers, including savory Shepherd’s Pye and satisfying trenchers served in bread bowls. Make friends with fellow diners over a frothy pint, or enjoy an ale outside in the beer garden. Want to take a piece of Colonial Williamsburg home with you? Order a local craft beer and keep the traditional salted mug. If you’re in need of a quick bite to fuel your day of exploration, stop by Chowning’s Garden Grill between 11am and 4pm daily for burgers, sausages, stew, BBQ, salads, and sweet treats.
