Went to Lowery's with family. Wasn't sure what I wanted so I tried the fried chicken. Had three pieces of white meat, two breast and a wing. Well this was the best chicken I have ever had. The coating was very crispy without being greasy. The chicken meat was very moist, juicy and not least but greasy. Didn't care for... More
Lowery's used to be The Place for seafood in the Northern Neck. Things were fresh and cooked to perfection. Now most of the sides seem to be from cans or mixes. Things are edible, and at times very good, but seem on the whole to be prepared with Indifference. The menu has something for every taste, but the taste of... More
Nice, cheerful, traditional local restaurant with good seafood. Excellent local oysters at a very reasonable price. Other appetizers and entrees are a bit overpriced. You can avoid the groaning board buffet by eating in the pub at the back of the restaurant. Service is friendly.
We started with the salad bar. Lots of choices/good options. My hubby had a dozen raw oysters for his meal. I had fried chicken with mashed potatoes and string beans. Good country cooking! The rolls are really good too. Service was fine. Atmosphere is okay. Stop if you are in the area.
Great down home earthy place for seafood but you can not go wrong for anything on the menu. Long time Town establishment. A most eat when in Tappahannock.
The restaurant is divided into two parts - the traditional family buffet by the entrance and the newer pub area in the back with an outside sitting area. Walked in for a late dinner and sat at the bar. A little funky, but we like funk. The bar has some great mixed drinks. All we had were the crab cakes, and they were the best we had from there down to Florida. The guy next to us had oysters and they were the biggest we have ever seen.
My wife and I went to Lowery's with a large group. Service was excellent. I did the Sunday Buffet. My wife ordered fried oysters and others ordered from the menu. The oysters were excellent and my wife is very picky about her oysters. One of our guests said he picked out a lot of bone fragments from his grilled fish.... More
