Husband loves German food and German beer, so this was the natural choice for supper while visiting Portsmouth. Although our first choices from the extensive beer/wine/cider menu were not available, we happily sipped at our second choices. We enjoyed the batter-dipped mushrooms as an appetizer--these could be addictive! The menu has a wide variety of entrees and sides, and all... More

My husband and I went there as guests of another couple . Never ate German food before . I'm sure some of it is good if you know what you getting. It was not for us.

I learned to love German food while I was stationed there on several occasions. Finding the Bier Garden was truly a treat. From schnitzel to sausage along with each and every beer, I've enjoyed every visit. I recommend it.

The Bier Garden has been in Portsmouth for a very long time. They specialize (of course) in Wiener Schnitzel, all kinds or wursts and a beer list that is unbelievable! They serve beers from all over the world. I enjoy it and always feel welcomed by the German owners.

We stopped in for lunch before a football game. We wanted something light, so both ordered the sausage lunch. My bratwurst was tasty, and the red cabbage was just sweet enough to offset the vinegar taste. My wife's knackwurst was also good, and her German potato salad was just like in Germany. There are literally hundreds of German and import... More

Pleasant surroundings, good service but you better like German food.. I went along with "the crowd" and found out I did not care for the food at all. Of our group (trying new things) we were divided perfectly in half. Some already knew German food but most didn't. If you are ready to try something new - the price is... More

Great food, beer and atmosphere. Our waitress Britta gave us recommendations and all were perfect. We started with the fried mushrooms. I had the Sauer beaten and Mt wife the goulash. Both were excellent. The beer menu was too large too select from. Waitress recommendations worked out.

In town on Business, I ate dinner at the bier garden. My schwein haxen (port hock) was great. I eat this meal a lot, and this was one of the best i have had in a while. I highly recommend it.
