Had dinner for 3 on a recent trip to Kerikeri. All the mains were horrible: Salmon main was over cooked with hardly any vegetables - which was returned. 2 x Lamb Shank dinners were disgusting - seemed like packet mashed potatoes in a stew not a jus - did not send this back as by that ime we were starving.... On a recent trip to Kerikeri after a long day of travel we opted for dinner close to our motel. They suggested Black Olive and on a very warm evening it was a perfect choice. We opted for traditional fish and chips enjoyed with Pinot Gris and it was perfect. Would definitely return and try their interesting sounding pastas.

My husband and i visiting from Australia had a lovely night at The Black Olive.... we had a pizza with 2 different toppings..yummy. the restaurant had a lovely vibe about it cosy and can be intimate. Dont be put off with looking from the roadway. This lovely little restaurant is tucked around the back. Very nice staff and the menu... More

Having eaten here before happily, we tried it under new management. Very disappointing. We ordered two of the pizzas and I was struggling to see how they were better than the $5 ones we could have got from Pizza Hut. Highly unlikely we'll be doing that again.

We visited mid week during the summer school holidays. Service was friendly and efficient but not intrusive. There was a reasonable selection of food including pizzas, pasta and mains. I had a lamb shank, my partner the ribs, one teen had pizza and the other fish and chips. The staff were quite happy to swap out ingredients too, I swapped... More

Sadly this restaurant is not what it used to be. They cant cook steak anymore! The kids hawaiian pizza was spicy! The staff appeared unorganised with no leadership, the first mussel on the dish was off but the rest were ok There was one waitress seen plucking her undies out of her buttcrack and then seen in the kitchen!!!

We ordered by phone, a pizza and pasta dish to takeaway as it was New Years Eve and we thought it would be busy so phoned ahead. Arrived to pick up our meal and was over-charged. Not once, but twice! On the third time after much discussion, the waitress got it right. Great. Got home to find our pizza was... More

I've been going to the black olive for over 20 years since it first opened! Has been a kerikeri institution. Moved home last year and was bitterly disappointed at the end of the year when it changed hands and the quality went down hill. However we chanced it again tonight and I have to say the food was amazing. Back... More

As a vegetarian pizza places usually offer an option or two. The Black Olive had several veggie options to take out or dine in. I opted for the Peru; Cajun spiced kumara, mozzarella, onion, banana, cream, mango chutney, cashews in a thin base. Unusual combinations that worked really well. We sat on a protected deck which was pleasant enough. The... More

We waited 2 hours for 2 pizzas, 1 fish and chips and a seafood platter. All came at different times and 1 pizza was over cooked. Very disappointing and as locals we won't be coming back. Seemed like the kitchen staff has no idea. The waitress was very nice, obviously embarrassed, but the evening was a disaster.
