Popped in with my husband, just to have a drink, nice friendly staff, sometimes there is a band playing on a Saturday night, and they get everyone up singing and dancing , which is nice to see, plus even if you don't know anyone else in there people are very friendly and will talk to you and you don't feel... Popped in here with husband, daughter and son in law. My son in law asked for two pinot grigios, only to be told they had run out. He asked for sauvignon blanc instead. When we tasted our drinks I was disgusted that it was to my mind a chardonnay, which we both detest. My daughter returned the two full glasses... More

Obviously this place used to be my favourite pub in Romford. However since John had gone and they have painted it to look like a cross between a battleship and a pie and mash shop. I don't like it. However I was in the Lamb next for bit of a rum dive but I left there, good band on to... More

Went here on a Friday afternoon. Pub wasn't that busy but from the time of ordering food to when it arrived was an hour. Good choice on menu, usual pub grub. There was only one member of staff serving drinks taking food orders and bringing food out. Seems they may have staffing problems. The food when is arrived was ok.

Since the pub had a facelift it's lost its atmosphere and even food menu has changed for the worse such a shame Even got new staff are not the same. And star he smell near the bar at the end smells like someone has been sick on the carpet

There were three of us walking around shops and getting hungry for late lunch ... English pub food is not what I would normally go for but my partner over rode the decision and the nearest one was Golden Lion, just opposite the end of High Street where we were standing. We walked in, grabbed menus and stood by a... More

Got a 'Great British Pub' voucher to use for my birthday. This pub was close & decided to give it a try. Excellent decor, comfortable chairs, lit fireplaces, polite & friendly staff, reasonably priced decent food, good selection of real ales. Sky Sports showing. A gem of a find this lunchtime. Can't comment on evening or weekend ambience.

Sunday roast is £8.99, seniors £3.99 for smaller portion. When we ordered roast beef wasn't available (something went wrong with the delivery apparently) so we were offered peppered rib of beef with all the Sunday lunch trimmings for £12.49p - it was absolutely delicious. We asked for the food to come out properly hot and it was. The Yellow Tail... More

I havnt frequented The Golden Lion despite not living that far away. Decided to visit for lunch after getting fed up with another listed hostelry in the area. Nice bright and airy atmosphere with a quite extensive range of real ales on draught. I'm surprised they have the turnover of beer to keep this many in top condition but my... More

The refurb, has done wonders for this place. The new menu is diverse and very good value for money...plus they serve sweet potato fries :) Good chef and serving staff were efficient and polite.

The golden lion is a beautiful old pub situated in the centre of romford. The history of this place is pouring out of the walls and ceiling. If it could talk, 'Le Lion' could tell some spell-binding stories dating back nearly six hundred years. It was a stop off point for Royalty on the road to Colchester, Sir Francis Bacon drank there and may have penned a theory or two. (referenec from beer in the evening) The golden lion is a traditional good old pub serving great food, a variety of ales (10 pumps, varies) and many other premium lagers and drinks. The pub has 3 tv's inside (downstairs) 1 Outside in the patio garden and a big screen upstairs to watch all your major sporting events. The pub also consists of a very large private function room upstairs which room hire only costs £50. It holds up to 100 people and has private bar, toilets and exit to the patio garden or main bar dowstairs.
